Name something more depressing than going to an interview for a job you really want and finding out it's as awesome as you'd hoped and then not getting it

You said the new job paid more but was fewer hours, right? - could you not leave the old job and take up the new job without your income dropping significantly, and then keep looking for a second job?
*hugs* I hope things work out, hun.
Out of interest, have you both checked you're claiming any/all benefits you're entitled to? I'm guessing you've probably checked all that out, but if not it's worth speaking to shelter or cab. You can check out eligibility for working tax credits here: http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx (you're turning 25 soon, aren't you? You have to be 25 to get them, but if you are, and you're on a low income you may well be eligible. I don't know if your course will affect it though. Al might be eligible too - you can both claim separately, as you aren't married. )
There're are fewer enough hours that it would be a significant job, or that would have been my plan all along :(
Al's decided that his income is too high for any benefits to apply, and he has his stubborn hat on. I think it's probably more to do with pride, but pride won't keep a roof over our heads.
Thanks for the tax credit link, will look into that - i'll be 25 in a few weeks so that would help hugely!
I'm just so fed up with this that i just want to hide away and wait for it to go away but it won't :(
