I told a middle school boy two days ago that his comments about how girls with low-cut shirts were "asking for it" were coming from TV and movies, completely fake. I told him not to touch one of the girls in the class. Later, he kicked her under the table, when he thought we weren't looking. We are always looking.

We don't always succeed in stopping the tidal wave of our society's misogyny, but our bodies can break the wave so that younger generations can fear less but think, dream, and achieve more. I am a man, but I fervently believe that few crimes are worse than those in support of the rape culture in which we live.

Great post that made me think. Keep walking tall.

Thank u so much for the feed back. I totally agree with you that the change we want can be brought forth in the younger generation. Teaching the boys to be respectful and the girls to stand up for themselves. We just cannot under undermine the impact of this.

Very sobering to see how bad the harassment is in India, and how firmly so many crimes against women are rooted in a fundamental devalueing of women as people.

This is so hard-hitting. I love the effect of listing the experiences of those girls and women, or the things people around them are thinking or planning for them, one after another, making it so clear that the violence and misogyny of patriarchy doesn't just hit in one place or affect just one kind of person.

Man, all of this is so true and heartbreaking. There are positive changes happening, too, however. I feel like we're on the edge of a huge wave of understanding.

Absolutely .... many of us chose to turn a blind eye to the issues as w aren't directly affected. Yes with awareness and a shared sense of pain , I too believe we could be on the brink of change :)

Thank u for reading and sorry for the delay in responding.
