Genesis' image has suffered from the mostly horrible pop they produced from 1986 onwards - Invisible Touch and the singles from We Can't Dance. For many, it invalidated all the decent stuff they did before that.
I have come to be a bit more Buddhist about it. They made some money, good for them.

whoa, I didn't know you were THAT young when you discovered Genesis. Of course, it's quite disturbing for an adult seeing a 5-year old kid in love with that particular song!

I was JUST listening to Mama this week.

I saw Genesis play at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago... it was awesome.
