But yeah, something is very broken, and no one wants to talk about it.
The other odd thing I was thinking about is whether this short/long term capital gains distinction is really necessary. There is still an incentive to keep winners for a long time, since you get taxed once, instead of yearly. But that is more of a hassle than a real problem.
