Whatever is done without letters on is not the responsibility of the fraternity- it's not the whole organization's fault if people want to get drunk when they're at parties. You mean to tell me you've never had a drop of alcohol yourself at a party? Come on. For me? Sure, I go to parties that my fraternity throws, but do I drink? Hardly. I do have to drive home after the parties and I do know my responsibilities, and the same goes for most (if not all) of my brothers.
The sad truth is, Hollywood's depiction of the Greek life is based entirely on the late 70's and early 80's. When was the last time you saw a 100% accurate Hollywood depiction (non-comedic, that is) anyway? Truth is, most of the inner workings of greek organizations are kept under tight wraps since we swear an oath to secrecy for most of our practices, so the only thing people see (or saw, as in most cases) is the drinking; chances are, if you see a fraternity throwing a party where everyone's getting "crunk", they're on their way to getting their asses kicked off

Fraternitys are a wasteepilepticseaJanuary 28 2005, 02:57:12 UTC
Look Roman you probally could make somebody believe that shit. but not someone who was in one. all we are saying is that you should not pay for friends and thats all you are doing in a frat. Greg
Okay, I can understand why you feel like people who are in frats are paying for friends... frankly when it all boils down, that's not true. I think it's all up to you, frats and sororities are a social organization, but there are also Business frats- that you pay for too, and you belong to them, and you don't get crunk. Chelsea you are wrong, a lot of sororities have a no alcohol policy, which means you can't drink in your letters, what you do when you don't have letters on is your own business. Also, I think your opinion Big Show comes from someone else's bitter experience with fraternity life. So before you're even out of high school and come to college you have a crappy point of view about frats and sororities and that's not a good way to look at anything. I had the same mentality and no one changed my point of view, but myself. I came to realize that being part of a sorority isn't about partying because I've only been to 2 parties, in the whole 5 months I've been an AOII, and it's not because I don't want to party, it's just that

i did not have a bad experience your wrong i dont know what your were told. but i do believe it is a waste of time and money. also some of them did treat him like shit and almost payed dearly for it. so he does have a taste for greek life. and roman is right You are buying your friends is the most common thing said and thats because its the truth plain and simple truth Greg
"I think it is bullshit I just see it as paying for friends"- This is by far the most commonly used line when describing why a person doesn't like fraternities/sororities. First off, you're in drama, no? When you're a part of drama, you pay- not with money, but rather in blood/sweat/tears over your performances; greeks have to pay for their membership due to insurance (which is expensive), rush parties (which, Chelsea, are bone dry of alcohol, national rules), and for supplies for events such as homecoming

Greg Theater is nothing like frats i pay with blood and sweat yes. but it is also my major and it is preparing me for my furture in the career i want to persue. i am learning valuable skills, not how to kiss someones ass!! thats the truth. Remember the old saying "friends don't come cheap" that doesn't mean paying well i guess you all are giving that a new meaning!
