I'm eating dill pickle potato chips and drinking mint iced tea. I just got out of the shower, because I seriously hate to sweat but I hate the feeling of clamminess when your sweat is drying on you. I know I grew up in Texas, but I hated the heat and humidity there, too ( Read more... )

i had never been on the west coast either, and last fall i drove over from route 66 to pacific coast highway all the way up to seattle. we took about six weeks, just meandering and stopping wherever we saw fit or fancy. it was breathtaking, life-changing. i encourage it highly. san simeon is a trip. i had to go there mostly because i was marion davies for halloween last year.

i could eat about a dozen peaches. mm. cold fruit.

(have i introduced myself? hi, im nora)

Hi Nora.

I recently found out that I'm slightly allergic to peach skin. My lips get very itchy and I get temporary cold sore like things on my mouth.

Marion Davies is a great idea for a Halloween costume. Have you seen the Patsy? Someone analyzed the fashion in it in one of my Fashion History classes. Marion is hilarious. I think I'm going to be Karl Lagerfeld for Halloween.

no, i have not seen the patsy, i just added it to my list.

lagerfeld! great idea.

i think this year myself and my beau may either be bollywood music stars or douglas fairbanks and mary pickford.

terribly sorry about the peaches.. does that mean nectarines are out, too?

I think it's just the fuzziness of the peach skins, which I just peel off. Necatarines are fine. Apparently peaches and grapes are the most common fruits for food allergies.

For my first college lecture (as in me giving the lecture) I gave a presentation on Dada and talked a little about Max Ernst. I put everyone to sleep, but I thought I was dazzling. I mean talking about trying to establish a 4th dimension through art? Why on earth would anyone fall asleep at 9am during a lecture like that? Ha.

i've been to san simeon, hearst castle, and the beach there. they have an indoor pool with gold plated tiles and alabaster ladders in that house, just under the tennis courts. the entire place was the work of a woman architect whose name escapes me at the moment. tours of the house(s) are given in sections because the place is too massive for one tour to encompass. the guest houses have entire ceilings taken from spanish chapels and lampshades made of ancient monastery manuscripts. I have an entire collection of photographs from san simeon and also a book about life with hearst by his mistress, Marion Davies. you are welcome to peruse both.

you need to go to big sur. just go. it is the most beautiful place in america, and someday I will live there.

sorry to tell you but the ernst show closed on the 10th, much to my dismay when I was at the met on friday. the chanel show is interesting, but the matisse is lovely and compact.

The Discovery Channel special showed some of the art and artifacts in the house including a 14th century Venetian flag with ancestral stuff on it. Frank commented on how it was nice that this priceless object was stored in a flat file with used glassine on top of it. I told him it was actually a good way to store a flat textile (excluding the used glassine). At least it wasn't folded or hanging. And then I realized we're big nerds.

The fact that the Ernst exhibition is closed just goes to show how inept I am at keeping things straight in my head when I don't write them down. I am such a waste, especially since I right downstairs on Mondays.
