'Yours sincerely' makes as much sense as 'Regards' to me, in fact, less so. How often do you say "Yours sincerely" when you're speaking to someone?

Fair enough, but people wouldn't end an e-mail to a mate with 'Yours sincerely' anyway, whereas I get quite a few informal e-mails from friends ending 'Regards'.

As for formal correspondence, I much prefer 'Yours sincerely' because it actually means something.

I only ever write 'regards' when I'm annoyed with the person I'm emailing. It takes a while for people to realise that's what I do but it makes me feel better!

But isn't it like telling someone to send your regards? And just what does that even mean anyway? I think it means to send them the message you're thinking of them... Anyway. Regards doesn't really bother me. And I wouldn't use it in an informal situation, only in a formal and I have NO CLUE what else to say.
