OOC: Memory (003)

The air smelled crisp, as if a shower had just passed. He could smell wet vegetation and concrete, and could hear the sound of two sets of feet- one almost muffled, the steps unheavy, and another, quieter pair whose heels clicked on the ground.

"Isn't it nice out today, Dollie?"

He recognized the voice as his own, but it sounded younger, more innocent. There was a smile in it, and he heard himself make a small sound, as if he were stretching as he walked.

There was a short pause, and the voice came from his right. It was soft, gentle, and when she spoke he could almost feel his breathing stop.

"Um...Feenie? Could I please have it back now?"

His voice was louder this time, and even he could hear the sullen undertones in his voice.

"But, Dollie, it's a symbol of our love! I'm never going to take it off!"

"Yes...but Feenie..."

"I show it to everyone I meet, Dollie! It's my most treasured possession!"

"Oh...I see."

There was silence, then, for a few minutes- silence only broken by the sound of feet on wet concrete and the smell of tires and motor oil.  He could hear people in the distance, cars passing by, and the sounds of motors starting and pulling out against wet asphalt.  He heard himself humming a song he couldn't place and heard more footsteps, more people spilling out onto the wet concrete. He paused after a few seconds, and the silence stretched between them. He spoke, then, his voice quiet but even he could hear the flooding emotion in it.

"I love you so much."

She smelled of flowers, and her voice was quiet when she spoke. Was it her being coy? Or perhaps it was defeat in her voice.

"I...I love you too, Feenie."

The smell of her was closer now, and he heard the kiss before everything went black.
