Hey, wtf happened to Hellgate? Did Flagship just fall apart after you left or what?

Hmmm... I dunno, but I did kind of see the writing on the wall, which was part of why I left.

It was a tough battle for them, I think - and I don't know how much of it had to do with their US/EU and Asian partners (EA, Hanbitsoft, etc.) maybe trying to get control of the license.

Hellgate is a great game for Asian markets, but didn't really hit big with US gamers. So Hanbit is taking over the game and will be releasing more stuff in Asia, but not supporting US and EU territories.

The U.S. servers are scheduled to shut-down on Jan. 31st.

I feel really bad for the Flagship guys - they were really smart and fun and tremendously talented. Working there was really a great experience for me.

I think they were just trying to do to much with HGL and trying to please everyone. And I hear that it was very emotional and heartbreaking for the founders when they had to close the studio.

But if you haven't heard, Bill Roper is now a design director at Cryptic - which I think is good news for Star Trek Online and Champions Online.
