Damn fine detail work. How, if I may ask, do you apply the paint in such tiny amounts? I ask from more than vague interest. I'm working on my first wooden ship model, and some of the deck hardware is rather tiny, but I want to detail it when I rig the ship. I'm just not sure _how_ to, say, age a deadeye where the lanyards pass through without mucking up the face of it.

Ooh, you're asking the *fun* questions.

I work with a range of brushes from 2-16/0 for my painting. The finest detailing is done, of course, with the 16/0 brush -- but most of this model was done with a 1.

The *most* important thing is to keep your paints thin. A lot of the time this can mean almost 50% water so it look more like a wash. This allows you to do several small layers of paint instead of one thick one... and makes mistakes less likely and less serious.

For the wood on your model, such as planking and railings, they actually make steel brush tools that you can adjust to scrape away layers of stain and/or paint to expose the wood. The effect is actual weathering and oh so cool.

If you're ever down here - and the model is small enough to transport - feel free to look me up. I'd be happy to give you access to the paints, equipment and photo box.

I like the idea of steel brush weathering. Cool!

Micro-Mark is your friend.

What effects will you be trying to accomplish? I can probably point you to articles that'll help if you can't manage local hands-on demonstration.

Flonk: What kind of a ship is it?

Mister J: Kharn isn't really a "Betrayer" per se. He is more like the kind of guy who always drinks the last beer in the fridge. The guys who know him call him "Kharn, that douche-bag guy." He's like those dudes who say they are in a band but really they just haul speakers and untangle extension cords.

You're just glad he's not pink.
