I understand about sharing things like Robotech. They hold a special place in one's heart from childhood and its important that people understand and respect that. All in all I think the robotech story holds up well (obviously not the animation) and that people will dig it. I think it dealt with some issues that are resonant to this day.
I felt the same way about the old transformers cartoon. I was the only person who got through the whole thing. And I enjoyed it.
Also to some extent DragonBall Z. To me it was such a fun experience, but you really just have to let go of some of the hokeiness and just enjoy the ride.
Having thought about it I think I've decided to just go ahead and show Robotech to Shannon. He may not like it but I'll never know unless I give it a shot. I would agree that Robotech mostly holds up.
I LOVED the Transformers when I was a kid but haven't had a chance to see the cartoon now. Not sure if I'd like it or not...
I promise to give Dragonball Z a chance. You have great taste in anime, dude, and if you think it's worthy it probably is. : )
Yeah, atleast Robotech gets into the action real fast. I might however give a cautionary warning about Lynn Minmei and her world saving songs. Not even Robotech fans like her. I think the actual voice actress got hate mail.
Transformers does not hold up well. I just am stubborn.
Dragonball Z is another thing that I'd be nervous about people liking. I think it has a really strong story once it gets going, but you have to let it go, and get past its flaws like the endless fights. It gets progressively stronger as it goes along. The first arc is only ok, but after that is just gets better and better as the characters age and get more complex.
Well...Shannon loves to be very vocal about the things he doesn't like and he tends to have a pretty scathing wit (which is fun and rocks in most cases)...
...but I think it'll be fine and do intend to show it to him.
