Can white English boys really sing the blues? Not really. I'm was listening to a collection of very old Stones songs, most of which were covers of old Delta and Chicago blues covers, and it's obvious to me that Mick Jagger is imitating but not feeling whatever is inherent in guys like Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson when they breathe, speak, move ( Read more... )

wowzers! a bengals fan from so far away?! hot damn, buddy that's great. i went to the bengals/ravens game on sunday and it was so much fucking fun. the highlight of the game: i got a bandanna that says WHO-DEY across the front with tiger stripes. sounds tacky, but i really love it.

when i come home for xmas i'll teach you the song everyone sings. maybe i'll bring you a little token? little souvenir? your very own bandanna?

The Falcons are my team, but I generally like the Bengals, especially Chad Johnson and Houshmanzadeh. Those guys are two really good receivers.
The Bengals by far have the best uniforms in the NFL. It's too bad that they have to play Pittsburgh Sunday. Hopefully the Steelers will still be a little off after their performance last week and give up some easy points.

I can't believe you spelled Houshmanzadeh right. When I say his name it comes out "Houshmanzedezuh..." or something similar.

I really like Johnson's TD celebrations. Some say they're in bad taste but I think it's nice to see somebody play the game with joy instead of anger.

John Hammond did some halfway decent blues stuff in the early 60s, and a few years back did a great album of Tom Waits covers. Is J.R. Taylor that prick that does the "I Had Too Much To Think Last Night" column? I can't stand that prick. Yes you are a conservative, yes you live in New York. I'd like to think if I lived in New York I'd find a better to write for than the Black and White, the lamer of the two free alt weeklies.

JR Taylor is that prick. David Pelfrey (the editor) told me he's actually the nicest, most polite guy. The sorta guy who'd remember your parents name. I do understand your contempt for the guy, but he makes me laugh. I also appreciate how ambiguous all of his reviews are--it's a pretty subversive thing to do, really, since most reviews are predictable and straight-forward.

My brother knew this woman he went to high school with and she sais she and JR met at a reunion, started talking, and started kind of dating long distance. But she soon broke it off (didn't want to do the long distance thing) and he began writing shit about her in his column. I just hate that fucking title, "I Had Too Much To Think Last Night," that's just too fucking pretentious.

sounds kinda creepy, reminds me of that peter braunstein guy who bashed his ex in a column, then made a list of women he wanted to hurt, then posed as a firefighter and raped a colleague of his ex for 12 1/2 hours. this was all on halloween in nyc this year. he's still on the run.

not that taylor is just like him or even slightly like him. it just reminded me.
