make me wonder
yunjae, homin
romance
Marriage, a dream job and a secret - three important things Yunho acquired in the last five years. But what if Yunho forgot the five years of his life because of an accident?
Two;
Changmin notices the slight change in Yunho’s behavior while they were eating their dinner. The latter seemed to be in deep thought, and whatever he was thinking was bothering him. Is it the food? But that’s impossible. Yunho loves Mushroom Alfredo pasta.
“…Yunho?”
The other doesn’t respond, instead, he continues poking the mushroom with his fork.
“Yunho…?”
Yunho’s head perks up at the sound of his name. “What is it?”
“Something’s bothering you. Are you alright?” Changmin asks him, straight to the point as always. Yunho shrugs.
“No, just… someone came in about an hour after you left. I don’t remember his name, it kind of sounds like Jae-something but he had pale skin and looks somehow like a model.” A very very gorgeous model, Yunho wants to add but refrains from doing so. That’s just inappropriate, especially in front of his wife husband.
Changmin freezes, his eyes turning a shade duller. The grip he has on his fork loosens a little. “That’s probably Jaejoong, my cousin. Did he say anything out of the ordinary?”
For you to remember.
Yunho turns into an unhealthy shade of white after remembering the kiss and those words. Changmin doesn’t seem to notice this. There are also some things that go unnoticed by the mighty Shim Changmin.
To say that the pale-skinned man baffled Yunho would be the understatement of the century. He was confused, curious and downright scared. No matter how much he pondered about it - it looked like he was cheating on his dear Changmin. That’s wrong. And scary. Cheating was something Yunho was against - except on quizzes, you get the point.
“Uh… not really.” Yunho lies, he’s not sure why though. Changmin lets out a sigh he’s been holding. “You most probably don’t remember, given the circumstances but… we share the same animosity, him and I. We’ve been at each other’s throat for as long as I can remember even though we’re technically family. So if he tells you anything, don’t believe him. He’s out there to ruin me.” He explains.
Yunho supplies a small smile. “Okay. I’ll remember that.”
-
The next morning, Jaejoong arrives in front of the apartment’s doorstep again. Somehow, Yunho had expected it already - the moment he woke up, there was this weird, unexplainable feeling in his stomach that something was going to happen today. And voila, here comes the antagonist of his wife husband’s life.
Maybe Jaejoong was pulling a prank on him. Maybe he was trying to take advantage of Yunho’s current situation to make Changmin’s life miserable. Maybe Yunho wasn’t cheating after all. Maybe.
Just like yesterday, Jaejoong pushes his way in, not even waiting for Yunho’s invitation for him to enter the abode.
“Uh… can I help you?” Yunho asks unsurely. The man in front of him still scares him. Yunho is good at reading people but somehow, his capability is rendered useless when it comes to Jaejoong. Its like the man has mastered the art of poker face ever since he learned how to breathe.
Jaejoong looks at him and sighs. “Do you hate me so much, Yunho-yah? Do you want me to leave you for good that’s why you’re pulling such a stunt? Are you punishing me for something I did? Is this your way of breaking up with me? Yunho, just tell me. I’ll understand, please, don’t be like this. You’re making it harder for me.”
The man seemed so sincere and Yunho just can’t find the heart to think that the other was his husband’s nemesis.
“I’m not - I’m telling the truth. I really don’t remember the last five years prior to the accident and I’m sorry but I don’t understand what you and I share before.”
“We were lovers - we were more than lovers. You and I share a bond that could surpass that of lovers and soulmates. But we were complicated. You’re married, to my cousin nonetheless, and Changmin and I practically dislike each other to the core, but these things weren’t enough to keep our feelings at bay.”
Yunho almost choke, literally. “I- I don’t believe you! I’ve never been a fan of infidelity! Not five years ago, not ever!” He manages to rasp out despite the shock that has overcome his senses.
“You said the exact words two years ago, you never being a fan of infidelity, I mean. But that didn’t stop us from seeing each other. Your attraction to me back then was way stronger than your love and devotion to your husband. That attraction turned into something more fatal and most people would call it ‘love’ but I beg to differ. What you and I feel for each other is something that surpasses love.” Jaejoong tells him.
“Yo-you’re lying. That’s not true. I could never cheat on Changmin. I’ve been in love with him ever since I can remember!”
The pale-skinned man laughs shakily. “You love Changmin, yes, I won’t deny that but you love me a lot more than you love him. What you feel for me transcends your love and devotion to your husband.”
“Stop it. Stop this. I don’t want to hear any of these lies. Just - just get out. Please.” Yunho begs. The words that came from Jaejoong’s lips were more than he can handle and he doesn’t know whether to believe it or not.
“Fine, I’ll leave you for today. But trust me when I say that I am uttering no lies.” And with that, the pale-skinned man was out of the door.
Finally, Yunho was able to breathe again. But that soon changed when another round of knocks were heard from the door.
Who knows? Maybe Jaejoong changed his mind and decided to go back and disturb his peace again. Or maybe its another one of his affairs, God forbid.
The knocks grew harder and for a moment, Yunho was scared for the welfare of the door but there was no way he was going to open that door. (He knew it wasn’t Changmin ‘cause he has keys, mind you)
“For god’s sake Yunho! Open up or I’m going to break this door and ram the broken wood up in your ass!” Heechul’s muffled but nonetheless scary voice reverberated from across the door.
Yunho sighs in relief before moving to open the door. It was Heechul, just Heechul, thank God.
“What the fuck? I thought you died of internal bleeding or something! And you do not make me wait for several minutes, Jung! My time is as precious as my complexion!” Heechul screeches while taking off his shoes. Yunho furrows his eyebrows slightly at his friend’s choice of statement.
“Sorry, it won’t happen again.”
The red-headed male nods at him in agreement, “Good. Now let me borrow your unused kitchen. I will always wonder why you and Changmin installed a kitchen in your loft when you never really use it. Tsk.”
Heechul takes out several ingredients from the paper bag he was holding, some of them Yunho can’t name. He starts whipping up something that smelled delicious while Yunho sat on the kitchen stool opposite from him.
After several minutes, Heechul serves Yunho and himself a gorgeous looking kung pao chicken. The red head grins at him smugly. “This looks delicious. I hope it tastes as delicious as it looks.” Yunho tells him jokingly.
“Of course it tastes delicious! My family owns a restaurant chain, for Pete’s sake. Don’t underestimate my cooking abilities.” Heechul replies before smacking the bejeezus out of Yunho. “Gods, you don’t have to hit me so hard, Heech!”
Heechul flashes him a smile - neither a smug nor a smirk. “Its been a while since you last called me that. Brings back old memories.”
Yunho sulks and stabs a piece of chicken with a fork. “Old for you, not for me.”
“Its good to have you back like this, Yunho-yah. You’ve been such a bastard for the past five years - well… three years.” The taller one’s head shoots up after hearing the statement. “Me? Bastard? Why - how - huh?” Heechul ruffles Yunho’s hair affectionately. “Hm. How should I tell you this? Well, where do you want me to start?”
“The start. Five years ago. After what happened at Yoochun’s hell of a party.” Yunho answers almost immediately, the chicken in front of him left forgotten.
Heechul sighs and sits opposite of Yunho. “Well… after Yoochun’s party, we rushed you to the hospital because of alcohol poisoning. We were all so scared, especially Donghae and I. You were too white for our liking and you looked so dead. I wasn’t used to seeing you like that. You’re such a bundle of sunshine no matter how cheesy that sounds. You stayed at the hospital for almost a month. You met Changmin there - well… Changmin met you there.”
“You and Changmin hit it off five months after and you got married to him on the exact day you two decided to ‘hit it off’. I’ll always wonder why you married him. Sure, you were smitten about him but you two were always fighting. Changmin could be such a prissy bitch if he wants to. You can say that the change happened months after the wedding.”
Heechul pauses - for a dramatic effect, of course. He almost laughs when he sees how eager Yunho looks right now. “ You told me you were so tired of fighting with your husband, that you were so so tired of him being so jealous of everyone in particular - that includes me and Donghae, but you know how I am. He can never take you away from Donghae and I - we’re the bbong family, for God’s sake. You decided to push everyone away so Changmin won’t get jealous anymore. You became so cold and so distant. You stopped going to parties and get-togethers. Heck, you don’t even attend my birthday parties anymore! Unless Changmin comes too. The Yunho five years ago disappeared and was replaced by a bastard who caters only to Changmin’s needs, that was until-“ Heechul stops, deciding to keep mum. “But let’s push that all aside! We have now have you back so its all okay! You have to promise me you won’t turn into that cold Yunho again or I’m going to cut your fingers off.”
Heechul turns to smile at Yunho but stops when he doesn’t see the mirth he was looking for in Yunho’s eyes. “Is something wrong?” He asks carefully. “If I tell you - would you promise me never to tell anyone?”
“Of course, I’m not your best friend for nothing, okay?” The red head replies with a reassuring smile. “What if - what if I was having an affair behind Changmin’s back in the past few years? What would you do? What would you think?” Yunho asks him, his voice was quivering. Heechul could see the fear that graced Yunho’s orbs. “What - who brought this on?” Heechul questions him back.
A weak sigh escapes Yunho’s lips. “I - yesterday, someone cam after Changmin. He - he started blabbering about things I can’t seem to understand. He said he was so worried about me, that I was stupid not to call him after waking up. And then I explained to him about my condition and he - he just remained silent before kissing me. He came back earlier too, minutes after you came in. He told me we were lovers - that we were having an affair. I don’t believe him though. But I don’t see any pretenses when I look into his eyes. I don’t know what to think anymore, Heech. I really don’t.”
Heechul grits his teeth. “I knew it. I knew it. I saw that fucker while I was on my way up. That - that bitch - he doesn’t know when to give up, does he?” Yunho turns to Heechul. Something was missing. “You - you know him?”
The red head sighs. “He’s a mistake you’re better off without. As much as I hate Changmin for you, I hate that fucker even more. His kind is the worst.” The taller of the two’s eyes widens in realization. “You know about my - my affair?”
Heechul rolls his eyes. “I saw the two of you in Jeju right after you told Changmin that you were on a business trip in Macau. Actually, I saw you first at the hotel lobby. I was fawning over you and god knows what until that fucker came looking at me with eyes full of hatred. I wanted to sock his face but you stopped me. He looked like that of a jealous wife and you looked so overprotective - even more protective than you around Changmin. I just knew. And after that, you just had to tell me. I threatened you to.”
Yunho looks crestfallen. “I - so its true? I really do have an affair with him? Does - does Changmin know?” Heechul sighs. “No, you and Jaejoong guard that secret with your lives. And I think I have to go. You wash the dishes - it’s the least you can do after being such a bastard for the past few years, okay?”
Heechul grabs his man purse from the counter and gives Yunho’s shoulder a small pat. “Don’t think about it too much, alright?”
