I spent the better part of this weekend doing shit around the house. I patched concrete and brick and sanded drywall . Aimee and I cleaned out our disgusting basement. We've got mold and mildew down there people! It's making me sick. Anyway its so goddamned humid here and our house is so freaking old it is just growing things. We're trying to get ( Read more... )

Ya never know with those dust storms.
So you are one of the eight folks in town with
a basement, congrats and so sorry. We're actually
about to start a massive bit of work on our place
as well...so not looking forward to it (and we've
only been here for a couple years). Good luck.

Oh do I feel your pain. Our house is a never ending project and the drywall portion just about defeated us both. We hung all the drywall and now we're waiting for the plaster guy to call back so we can set a time for him to finish the job. No more crazy wood tiled ceiling and wood paneled walls!

Good luck killing the mildew! I get a headache just thinking about it.

It's actually too much for us to deal with. Water intrusion into our ridiculous basement has been an issue since we moved here. The basement is accessed from the outside.It's just a staircase and then a door so anytime it rains water pools at the bottom of the staircase and floods the basement area. Aimee had a bunch of wood scraps for her projects down there and we had other crap down their too. Over the years it's just moldier and moldier. Anyway we had a licensed air quality guy come down into our crawlspace. It wasn't so great to say the least. I put a dehumidifier down there and we moved out all the wet stuff so it's a lot better. Unfortunately some of it is that really toxic mold so we need to have a professional come in and clean it if we want to avoid serious damage. Our house is 3/4 crawlspace/piered and about a 1/4 basement. I think the basement was put in to access plumbing,but it sucks and I hate it. It is structurally the weakest part of the house.
