DIY Mind Gangsterism: a quick guide to internet promotional tools

digifox wants to be a Mind Gangster. She needs the tools. So I started writing what was intended to be a fast and probably incomplete guide to what's around. Because it's all about the tools and what you can make them do ( Read more... )

I've got nearly all of the resources, yet I haven't organized them in a productive manner - yet. That's coming. I've been working on it.

To do list:

[x] Format web site (currently changing servers.)
[x] Squeegee creative film off of eyes, put on paper, format into html, post on said website, and begin worship of monocle-wearing cricket, Mr. Thebes.
[x] Take risqué pictures; lingerie-clad, preferably draped over the prop or an airplane. For web layout use only. Back-up layout: Liefeld art.
[x] Buy mace for protection. Give to Mr. Thebes for safe-keeping.
[x] Wait for second installment of W. Ellis’ HOW-TO guide.

I'm learning. It burns.

Holy Christ! I was outlining a comic the other day with a friend of mine about a monocle wearing flea who fancies himself a 19th century British explorer.

Ok, so that has nothing to do with what you wrote, but there were monocles involved.

I tried risque photos of myself in lingerie. It scared people away. And the ones that stayed scared me.

But I, too, am glad Uncle Dub is helping us out.

Movable Type is actualy fairly easy to install if you follow the instructions, even if you don't have a knowledge of perl script. Of course the problem with their instructions is that they have complicated the options. There should be versions of the instructions in accordance with the level of dbase support and other options (which tends to attract the more technologically elite) required to mount the blog. At the simplest level - when you delete all the added options - the instructions are actually pretty straight forward.

Like most IT implementations, you need geek liaison communication to interpret the complexity which overshadows simplicity.

Yeah well so did a few of my colleagues. You're not alone. And there are always sad fanatics like me who regard coding as a challenge. For me, making sense of reams of complete guff is occasionally better than sex.

I'm not sure a blog is actually the best means of attaining mind gangsterism. I rather think wiki do that more effectively. A blog provides a platform; a channel for a voice. A wiki gives you the opportunity to wreck havoc on unassuming participants. Marvellous fun.

My loathing for wikis is unreasonably boundless. Even the sound of the word "wiki" causes Hate to flood my very veins.

Well at least you recognise your loathing is unreasonably boundless. And I stand by my comment on mind gangsterism. The Social Software That Shall Not Be Named is a better instrument for cerebral standover tactics than a blog (which in most cases is a better instrument than most sex toys for a mind fuck).
