the thing that really cracks me up is even something like Warren Ellis talking about drinking coffee and not being able to buy duty-free cigarettes gets nearly 50 replies.

My roommate, who is from England, had to start smoking our crap American cigarettes once he moved here a couple years ago. I got him switched within a couple of days to a legal imported brand (of cloves, not regular cigs) called Djarum Black. (In the actual black packaging, there's a few varieties and the damn clerks never seem to understand that when I say Djarum Black, I do not mean the white or tan colored ones.) I'd try those. Zain's Liquor on 3rd between Market and Mission Street, has them, and they're open until 11/midnight most days, and are a block and a half from bart and a half a block from multiple buses. Otherwise, you're stuck with the cowshit.

Best news I’ve read all day. Now do that again when you get back home, and I’ll be a happy girl.

Sorry about the smokes, I’d send you some of mine, but I hear they are made of cow shit...

Finding decent ciggies will be less of a challenge than finding a place to smoke them in California.

Amen. There are more places to legally smoke Pot (with a prescription, that is *wink*) then cigarettes in this city. At least, less places anyone will yell at you for doing so.
