Been holding off on making this post. Not just for the usual reasons, but also because the last comment on my LJ is currently from Lex, and in an irrational way I feel kind of bad about pushing it off the page

I have always thought that if/when I have kids I would be totally honest and up-front with them from the very start. Santa Claus does not exist. Ditto for the tooth fairy. Ditto for God, as far as I am concerned. Electrons do NOT orbit the nucleus in little circles. The Rutherford model of the atom sucks. E != mc^2, except within limited approximations.

But death? Wow, children can't understand that without first dealing with a whole load of other difficult concepts. The whole "sleeping" white lie is probably for the best.

I was about Gabe's age when my Dad passed away and my mum tells me she tried to explain it to me but I just didn't understand - I don't think it was cowardly.
