Abandonment

She married, but she didn't leave Narcissa. She still visited the Black home to see her little sister - her only sister now that Andromeda had run off with that mudblood. They talked and showed each other their new clothes and jewelry, just like old times. And just like old times, she crawled into Narcissa's four poster bed.

Bellatrix Lestrange was never gentle, but the marks left on her sister's pale skin were far shallower than the deep gouges she left on Rodolphus's back. She bound Narcissa's hands to the bed posts and nipped at her skin until Narcissa thrust her hips upwards. She teased Narcissa until she sobbed, bringing her to the brink of orgasm numerous times before letting her climax. It wasn't a game she ever played with any other woman.

Andromeda had known about their game, but she never said anything. It was not an uncommon practice among pureblood families. In fact, it was tacitly encouraged, since it permitted witches to keep their virginity intact and still attain some release. Bellatrix had gotten the feeling that Andromeda didn't approve though, a feeling she now attributed to Andromeda's corruption by the mudblood. She'd made a show of intimately kissing Narcissa at the breakfast table, just to annoy Andromeda.

If Bellatrix ever pondered the issue of love, she might have named Narcissa as the love of her life. She enjoyed her marriage to Rodolphus, but she didn't love him. They spurred each other to greater acts of terror in the Dark Lord's name, but they also competed fiercely for his favor.

Narcissa was the only one with whom Bellatrix could relax fully. Narcissa was the only person she trusted enough to share her occasional silly thought or embarrassing memory with. It was Narcissa who'd been allowed to see Bellatrix cry and not had the memory swiped from her mind.

When Narcissa's marriage to Lucius Malfoy was announced, Bellatrix didn't give it much thought. She had no reason to expect their relationship to change. Every decent pureblood witch wedded, bedded her husband, and bore heirs. There was no cause for alarm. She was actually excited by the prospect of making love to Narcissa in Malfoy Manor, which was more impressive than the Black Estate, though she'd only admit it under the influence of Veritaserum.

At first she didn't even notice the amount of time Narcissa spent with her fiancé. But more and more she arrived at her family's home only to be informed by a house elf that Miss Narcissa was out with Mister Malfoy. She used the Cruciatus Curse each time it happened, until the house elves chose to punish themselves rather than talk to her.

Then she began to notice how distracted Narcissa was when they were together. Narcissa closed her eyes when Bellatrix caressed her, and Bellatrix thought she heard her whisper "Lucius" once. That night she ignored Narcissa's protests and spanked her until her hand hurt and her sister's ass was red. She'd never hurt Narcissa before.

The next day she gave her favorite ruby bracelet, which Narcissa had long coveted, to her as an apology.

Narcissa had never looked more beautiful than on her wedding day. She had eyes only for her husband and smiled at him the whole day. Bellatrix was jealous enough that she deliberately stomped on her own husband's foot while they danced. He crushed her hand in retaliation, and Bellatrix led him to her old bedroom for a bout of violent sex, all the while trying desperately not to think about Narcissa and Lucius's honeymoon.

She waited two weeks to visit the new Mrs. Malfoy, only to have Narcissa kiss her on the cheek and offer her tea. Bellatrix grabbed her sister, her fingernails digging into her soft upper arms, and crushed their lips together. Narcissa's response was lukewarm, but Bellatrix didn't give up. She forced Narcissa back onto the settee and shoved her skirt up around her waist, and frantically rubbed her through her knickers, trying to make her moan like she used to when they were teenagers.

It didn't work quite the way she had intended. Narcissa moaned, and she reached for Bellatrix and made her moan as well. But afterwards, Narcissa straightened her hair and clothes, and offered Bellatrix another cup of tea, like nothing had happened.

Bellatrix had always held Lucius in high esteem. He was ambitious, intelligent, handsome, kept a tight leash on his emotions, and had the right ideas about the importance of blood. She'd considered him a friend at Hogwarts, and they were in the same clique within the Death Eaters, but she was beginning to loathe him.

She saw the way his icy gaze thawed a little when he looked at her sister. She heard the way he said, "Narcissa," as though his wife was the most precious thing in the world. She even caught them holding hands in public.

It was merely infatuation, she told herself. Narcissa's feelings towards her husband would cool soon and things would go back to the way they used to be. When she visited, Narcissa would be happy to see her and they'd sprint up to the master bedroom immediately, instead of politely nibbling pastry in the drawing room.

But the months went by and nothing changed. In fact, it grew worse. On Halloween Narcissa announced that she and Lucius were expecting a child. Bellatrix's wine glass shattered in her hand when she heard. She was taking contraceptive potions herself so she could remain useful in the Dark Lord's struggle against the mudbloods and blood traitors. How dare Narcissa breed now of all times?

She was poised to screech at Narcissa when pain like she'd never felt before began to emanate from her forearm. Lucius, Rodolphus, and Rabastan were also clutching their forearms. Bellatrix yanked up her sleeves to see her Dark Mark glowing. Then suddenly it dimmed and the pain faded.

Bellatrix forgot all about Narcissa - except to note that Narcissa worriedly questioned Lucius, not her. Something was wrong. Some misfortune had befallen the Dark Lord. She Apparated all over Britain, spending months seeking her lord in every place she could think of. When she and her fellows tortured the Longbottoms, Narcissa was the furthest thing from her mind.

In Azkaban she discovered that Lucius had renounced the Dark Lord. The coward claimed to have been under the Imperius Curse. How she had misjudged him. And her sister! How could her sister abandon her for such a filthy scoundrel? Bellatrix screamed until her throat became hoarse. Not the even the Dementors hovering nearby could quiet her.

Thirteen years later, when she was finally free, Bellatrix vowed to reclaim Narcissa. She'd find a way to punish Lucius for his betrayal, maybe send him to Azkaban, and then Narcissa would welcome her with open arms. But she hadn't counted on Narcissa's loyalty now belonging to another Malfoy male.
