Title: One more chance {Chapter 5}

Author: Mistress_astute

Pairing: Ariyama

Rating: PG-13

Summary: Yamada's dying. He just wants to help Daiki move on.

Takaki was started to feel guilty about an hour later for asking so much. After all Yamada had just recently become a ghost and it was not his fault that he discovered new things randomly. Takaki was seriously panicking because there had been no signs of the ghost boy at all. Did he anger him that much? And worse, Daiki seemed very annoyed at him too. How the heck did he manage to piss two guys off within a minute?

Though… it was not him that pissed Daiki off… it was Yamada. But if Yamada had said that, he doubted that Daiki would become as irritated as he was. But then if Yamada was the one who talked to Daiki, then he would not have been a ghost. But Daiki would not be in that condition if Yamada had not died…

Takaki continued his endless trail of random thoughts, totally unaware of his surroundings. Chinen and Ryutaro exchanged similar curious glances after seeing Takaki’s spaced out face. After a while Chinen decided to do something about it.

“Yuyan ~” Chinen called as he bounced over to the other boy. “Are you alright?” He pouted when Takaki ignored him and poked the older one harshly in the side.

“Ouch! Chii, what did you do that for?” Takaki yelped, rubbing his sore side.

“You were ignoring me!” Chinen accused him as if it was the most sinful thing on earth.

Takaki chuckled and patted the younger one on the head. “I’m fine Chii. Just thinking.”

“What were you thinking about?” Chinen asked eagerly, eyes wide with curiosity.

“Just some stuff,” Takaki answered, evading the question. Chinen narrowed his eyes but said nothing more on the topic.

“Yuyan’s mean today!” he said instead before running off to Ryutaro.

Takaki could only sigh and wonder how he managed to offend yet another person. He glanced at the clock. It was not even an hour since he got Yamada mad. He concluded that that day was a horrible day. A very horrible day.

--

The next time that Takaki saw Yamada was later that night. He was already asleep when he heard someone shouting and felt someone shaking him roughly. But he was so exhausted that he just ignored it.

“Takaki Yuya I’ll kill you if you don’t get up!” Yamada shouted in annoyance. When Takaki still did not respond, he used all his strength to push Takaki off the bed.

“What the hell?!” Takaki snapped, glaring. When he realised it was Yamada, he stopped glaring and sat on his bed. “What do you want?” he asked carefully, not wanting to make Yamada any more mad than he was.

“Daiki - ” Yamada started but Takaki cut him off.

“What happened to him?” Takaki asked anxiously.

“Shut up and listen!” Yamada snapped impatiently and it was written all over his face as well. Takaki wisely kept his mouth shut. “I don’t know what the heck’s wrong with him but he went drinking. And he’s at the pub near his house. Get some of the others. Go! Now!”

Without replying, Takaki threw on the first clothes he grabbed and dashed out of the door. He did not know why Yamada but he texted the other BEST members about the situation and asked them to get there at once. Takaki reached the pub first and started searching around the place but he could not see Daiki anywhere.

“Yuya!” Yabu called out and Takaki immediately rushed over to where the three BEST members were. “Why did you call us here?”

“Where’s Daiki?” Inoo asked worriedly. “I can’t see him!”

“How did you know that he’s here?” Hikaru asked.

“My friend saw him,” Takaki quickly lied, eyes still scanning the crowd. He was growing more panicked as he still could not find the younger guy.

“Gosh, where is he then?” Inoo said anxiously.

“Outside!” Takaki heard Yamada’s voice and he immediately ran to the backdoor. The other three was taken aback but followed him nonetheless.

At first Takaki just saw a group of guys but no Daiki, then he realised that Yamada was glaring at the guys as if he wanted to kill and he got it. He ran up to them and pushed the one closest to him away. What he saw made his blood boil. A guy was pinning Daiki’s wrists against the wall and he was kissing Daiki. He could see Daiki struggling a bit. No wonder Yamada was so mad.

Before he knew it, Yabu had already pulled that guy off. Hikaru also pushed more of the other guys out of the way. They got angry of course and started punching and kicking. Without wasting another second, Takaki joined in and punched the guy nearest to him. Within a few minutes those guys were knocked out on the floor. It was lucky that they were drunk.

Inoo, by then, had already dragged Daiki some distance away and was now hugging the younger BEST member, stroking his head gently. Yabu, Hikaru and Takaki made their way over.

“Is he alright?” Yabu asked, worry etched into his face.

“Yea...” Inoo mumbled. “Well, at least he’s not hurt.”

“Let’s get to Ko’s car first,” Hikaru suggested. “It would not be good if we were caught here.”

Everyone nodded in agreement and hurried to Yabu’s car which was parked nearby.

“Daiki, what’s wrong with you?” Hikaru snapped in annoyance as Yabu stepped on the pedal and drove away as fast as he could.

Daiki laughed and pushed Inoo away, leaning his head against the window pane instead.

“Nothing.” Daiki then burst out in giggles.

“You -” Hikaru started in an angry tone, sounding very much unlike himself before Inoo placed a hand on his shoulder and shook his head.
“He’s drunk.” Inoo mouthed to Hikaru and shook his head once more sternly. Hikaru inhaled sharply and slumped back into his seat.

Takaki could see Hikaru’s hands balling into fists from the rear view mirror. He looked away to Daiki who was, by then, quiet. Daiki was staring out of the window, with an obscure expression on his face. He did not look so drunk anymore and Takaki had an uneasy feeling in his chest that Daiki might have been faking it. But he quickly diminished that thought before it had time to expand.

After what felt like forever, they reached Yabu’s house. They clambered out of the car and made their way up to Yabu’s room, not caring if they were being noisy. Yabu’s family had gone on a short trip anyway. After slamming the door shut behind him, four pairs of eyes turned to the youngest member of BEST who was sitting on the edge of the bed.

“What?” he asked in a slurred tone, laughing again.

“We need to talk,” Yabu said seriously and silence filled the room.

Takaki sighed heavily and turned his gaze away, almost jumping when he saw Yamada beside him. He tried to gesture as subtly as he could to Yamada but the younger boy totally ignored him. His attention was all on Daiki.

“Explain.”
