Fraser Island (part 2)

I didn't just go to Fraser Island to take pictures of trees and tracks in the sand. I also went there to visit the Maheno shipwreck, a passenger liner that was blown ashore by a cyclone in 1935. Unfortunately, I joined the wrong tour group for that. (Yep, I joined a tour group for once. Shoot me.) I expected to be given plenty of time to explore and photograph the wreck, particularly since our guide was a keen photographer who seemed to be in tune with photographers' needs. So I was rather frustrated when we were called back to the bus within ten minutes of our arrival at the wreck site, particularly since I had mostly spent those ten minutes taking pictures of the "wrong" side of the wreck and waiting for people to disappear from view. If I had known we'd be given so little time to explore, I would have started at the front of the ship, where the light was better. Unfortunately, there were a lot of people there at the time, so I thought I'd start at the other side. Another one in a series of Bad Decisions made by yours truly...

My frustration mounted when we passed the wreck again several hours later on our way back from some other place. At that time the light was perfect and there wasn't anyone else around to ruin any shots we might take, but our guide refused to stop as he wanted to get back to the other side of the island in time for a sunset which never materialised. And now my Australian friends tell me the wreck may be removed soon, so I may never get another shot at photographing it...

I'm still seething with frustration.

Anyhow, this is what I got before I was shooed back to the bus. They're not the best shots colour- and light-wise, and they may be a little too dark because of my monitor issues, but I like the first one. I had to shoot evil glances at a dozen people to get it, but I think it was worth it!

I wish I could have taken these from the other side. The light was so much better there.

Sigh.
