Rome in Lovely Cross-Processed Colours

Nov 26, 2007 11:39

I had one roll of 120 film cross-processed after my recent trip to Rome. This is how it came out. Funky colours and burnt-out highlights courtesy of the cross-processing.

Angel in front of the Castel Sant'Angelo, where popes used to hide in times of trouble.

i've never been a big fan of cross processing, but your photos bear the marks of your usual excellent composition. [i just pretend they are black and white, and it's all the same.]

they brought back lots of good memories of rome. my favorite is the angel in front of the castle. i was standing by the angel one afternoon trying to bum a cigarette off of someone when i noticed a pretty young lady and her mother eating big colorful ice cream cones. i asked if i could photograph them and with their permission did. she gave me her card and asked me to send her a photo. it turned out she was from amsterdam and was the photo editor of a magazine. i was too embarassed to send her the picture as i didn't think it was up to par for a photo editor. you have to be careful what you ask for, you might just get it.

Why, thank you! I'd noticed you weren't particularly keen on cross-processing, or colour photography in general for that matter, but I'm glad you found something to your liking in these.

Your story made me smile. You should have sent the photo and a heap of other ones, as well! You never know; it could have been a career-making move...

I'm amused by how much the angel in the first photo resembles a guitarist -- a hard-rocking guitarist at that. I'm surprised no one here has remarked on it!

why, i'm stunned. you're exactly right, the angel does look like he's rockin' out. i think your awareness of details like this is why your photos are so typically well composed. you have a good eye.

incidentally, she was with the dutch edition of "playboy," so i don't think there would have been much career opportunity for me there. i don't like their style of photography.

I didn't notice the guitarist-like pose of the angel until I started editing the photo. It definitely wasn't the reason why I took the picture. I just liked the composition of the building on the left and the angel on the right. It was a happy discovery, though. :-)

I can imagine Playboy-type photography isn't quite your cup of tea, although you seem to like your nudes. Still, you never know what it could have led to. She might have known other photo editors working for other magazines...
