All Right, I'll Post Something, Since It's My Birthday and Everything...

You'd be forgiven for believing I've abandoned this journal, considering the rate at which I've been posting lately. I know I haven't been around much, and I apologise for it. Rest assured, however, that I have no intention of abandoning this journal. I'm just hideously, ferociously, unpleasantly busy at work at the moment, and if that weren't bad ( Read more... )

congratulations! those heavy digital cameras are really great to place on top of your negative files to keep them nice and flat. [i hear you can make some sort of pictures with them too.]

happy b'day again too.

Heh. Thanks! Yes, the D300 is rather heavy -- so heavy that I'll probably curse myself for buying it the next time I go on a long walk and have to carry it with me all day. But I still intend to enjoy using it...

Thanks and thanks! Yeah, I suspect I'll love my D300 once I finally get around to using it. First, however, I'll have to read the instruction manual. Not sure when I'll get around to that...

you put your money on a smart camera... the Canon's are not giving the same value for the money as the Nikons are at the moment, now that Nikon solved their noisy ISO problems. I personally cannot work the Nikon's too-many-buttons cameras, as I try them from friends, and I have too much invested in lenses from Canon to make the switch. Oh well.

There is suppose to be a feature in my calendar to remind me of b-days... alas, it did not work, otherwise I would not be this belated :)

Happy Birthday... whatever the age is, which is, of course, inconsequential. ;)

Thank you! This is a very belated reply, but no less cordial for all that...

Yes, I think I did buy the right camera, although I agree it has far too many buttons. I have yet to take a picture with it (that's how busy I am... ridiculous, isn't it?), but the reviews are excellent. Everybody seems to agree it's a magnificent camera. The question is now which lenses to buy with it. So far, I've only bought a Nikkor 28mm lens as a near equivalent to my analogue 50mm lens, to which I'm very attached. I'm now looking into bigger objectives. I'm considering getting the new Tamron 28-300mm lens, which is getting fairly good reviews. The lens is surprisingly small for the range it covers, and it's said to be pretty good quality. But I'm looking into a few Nikkon lenses, too...

What range is your favourite lens, if you have one? What focal length do you use most?

Thank you for echoing my feelings on digital SLRs. My significant other keeps asking me why I haven't taken any photos with my new camera yet. I keep telling him that it's a bloody complex piece of equipment, that the instruction manual is over four hundred pages long and that it's not a matter of just switching the camera on and taking pictures with it, but he doesn't seem to believe me. You, at least, know what I'm talking about ( ... )
