London: Bits and Pieces

May 26, 2008 10:28

Hello LJ! It's been a while since I last updated, but I have a proper excuse for my absence. I just spent three weeks in the UK with my boyfriend, who came all the way from Australia to see me and parts of English-speaking Europe. We spent five days in London and then went on a whirlwind tour of England and Scotland. As always, both countries were ( Read more... )

What, you object to having your picture posted in my journal without prior warning? I think it's an OK photo, apart from the hands you have in your pocketses... :-)

i like those wellies! i probably wouldnt wear them due to a childhood spent in leaky ones, but i like how red wellies look.

how did you get such a shiny, clean tube!?

*rolls over the floor in agony*

Are you telling me I have people on my friends list who would actually wear such things? Like, seriously? I'm shocked beyond belief. My poor heart...

If you ever buy a pair and go out with them, I insist you invite me over so that I can take pictures of the event. I have this vision of an entire series of red-welly photos shot all over London...

I think I chanced upon the tube station just minutes after it was cleaned. I honestly can't account for its blinding shininess in any other way. The street in which I took the red-welly photo was disgusting, though. I cloned out several dozen lumps of chewing gum from that one. Ew.

what else would you wear with this outfit!? (i can't believe you can't see our feet in that one! take it from me, it's red wellies all round)

you need them in england.. and they're good enough for prince charles.. I know the queen wears them, but i couldn't find any pictures. wellies, man!

Aw, sorry about the chewing gum. I did think the pavement looked rather too clean but I couldn't think why.

Hmmm. I'm forced to concede that red wellies are indeed the only logical accompaniment to an outfit like that. I do hope you wore a slightly more elegant model, though. You know, longer than the ones in the photo. Like the ones Prince Charles wears. Those are somewhat acceptable in my book.

With hindsight I think I should have left the chewing gum in the pavement photo. It looks kind of sterile now, doesn't it? But my focus was on the red wellies and I felt the gum would distract from that. Maybe one day I'll post a Version 2.0...

Yes, I have an Aussie boyfriend. Things are going quite well between us, so I may soon become an Aussie myself!

You wouldn't be a tad biased now, would you? :-)

Seriously, I'm looking forward to moving to Australia. It will only be a few months at first (to see if I can deal with all that sunshine, hee hee), but I trust that it will lead to a much longer stay eventually.

gosh, it's nice to see you back. and, you certainly haven't lost your touch. you have such a great sense of composition. i'm thinking these were mostly framed in the camera and not in post-production?

i know the pleasure of companionship and the need for affection. as edna st. vincent millay averred, "many a man has died for lack of love alone." but having said all that, let's don't let romance get in the way of sharing your beautiful photos with your lj friends.

[really, it is nice to see you back. i was beginning to worry about you.]

Why, thank you, sir. It's nice to be back.

*blushes at all the kind words*

Yes, these compositions were all framed in the camera. I did make a few minor adjustments, such as cloning out all the chewing gum in the red-welly photo and making the balcony photo square, but the final products are very close to the pictures I took.

I have a feeling that, rather than getting in the way of my sharing beautiful photos with my LJ friends, my romance will actually lead to my posting more beautiful photos, as it's beginning to look like I may move to Australia in a few months. I can see heaps of beautiful Australia and New Zealand photos coming up...

Thanks very much for your concern, but really, there's no reason to worry about me when I disappear for a while. Chances are I'll be doing good things (work, writing, travelling, having fun). I just hope you're well yourself, seeing as you also disappeared for a while...

ahh...so good to hear from you. as for me, i'm about the same, but older than when we last communicated. i'm stiff and sore and walk like an old man, but with summer nearly here i've once again begun working on the cemetery restoration project. all else is fine.

my brother has lived in australia for quite a few years now and loves it. i imagine you would as well. keep us posted as to your whereabouts...and keep posting your excellent photographs.

I'm sorry to hear about the stiffness and all that. It's good to hear you're working, though. The cemetery restoration project sounded like a worthy project when you told me about it, and if it gets you out of the house after such a long recovery period, so much the better. Best of luck with it!

I'm fairly optimistic about my Australian adventure. Of course, you never know what may happen, but right now I think I'll love it. Gorgeous scenery, nice people, lots of sunshine, bubble tea served all over the place... how could I not love it?

Thanks, S! Yes, I'm a resident of Holland -- a born and bred Dutchwoman, to be exact. Last year I spent a few months travelling in Australia, where I hung out with my on-line friend Conan and saw things develop into a bit more than an on-line friendship. It looks like I'll be moving to Australia in a few months' time to be with him. Exciting, no? :-)
