Yay, Iowa Supreme Court

I am so proud of Iowa and the Iowa Supreme Court in particular. Today they issued a unanimous ruling that a ban on same sex ruling is unconstitutional and therefore gay marriage is legal ;) ;) :) If you would like to read the 63 page ruling the Iowa Supreme Court has it posted ( Read more... )

It's a good step in the right direction, but the battle ain't over. Next move for the neo-cons: amend the Iowa state constitution.

True. But the legislature says they aren't going to deal with the issue this session (which ends in the next couple of weeks), which means they won't get to it until next year. So, if they hold true, Iowans would not be voting on it until at least 2012 or 2013, hopefully, time enough for moderates to see the good of gay marriage and discover it does no harm!

That's awesome! I was very happy when I saw it on the news :)

We found it ironic that at the wedding we attended last weekend, the person performing the marriage could marry others, but, being gay, could not himself get married to his long term partner. Of course, Catholic priests also have the power to marry but not to get married, but at least that was their choice upon choosing priesthood.

Anyway, (sleep deprived rambling must stop), Hooray for Iowa!
