I won't be clerking in court on Monday, and since I am a court employee I really can't say anything that resembles legal advice, but I can tell you that Hennepin county housing court has volunteer attorneys available every morning that you can possibly talk to if want/need some legal advice. They usually don't get there until about 8:30, but if you show up right away at 8 you can probably be first in line. Just, well, remember to bring any/all documents you might wanna show someone with you. (you wouldn't BELIEVE how many people show up and start saying "well I have this proof...." but then didn't bring it)
...also, keep in mind that court is NOT like Judge Judy or Ace Attorney or whatever else, though if you listen to and follow the instructions of the clerk and judge they'll usually make clear any procedures/policies you need to know.
I totally was wondering if I'd see you there! LOL!
Thanks for the info! I called Legal Aid the day after we got that letter and they guided me through what steps to take. I think I will ask to see one of the advisors when I get there Monday morning too because I want to discuss what I found out about some of the Eviction laws. I went to the housing court website and there was this form you can fill out (a check list) to basically counter the summons. My landlady did so many things wrong it's just... *shakes head*. I've got a nice big packet full of pictures, cleared checks, the inspection reports, emails/letters of her promising repairs, emails about us discussing how we'd handle the withheld rent from July... There's so much against her I really wonder why she took this step to try to evict us. I'm MOVING. She knows I am and that I have a new apartment. She gave me the reference to get it and she knows it's not going to be ready until Oct. 15th. Which would have technically been my 30 and 1 days. We probably could have handled this
( ... )
Yeah, if you have questions about the forms you can either ask the volunteer attorneys, or ask whoever's clerking at the counter, there's copies you can get there too to fill out if you want.
(though really all of this is just what you'd be told if you called housing court and asked and such.... XD)
oh wow, hun. You never seem to catch a break. It always seems to want to throw drama on your head. I wish you luck for monday. I don't really have any doubts that you'll win. When you are determined you are one fierce mama, but when you are prepare to the 'T', then you are just unstoppable. (I've noticed that over the years of watching you on LJ and DA)
Hang that bitch out to dry *hugs*
(excuse my language, I'm really miffed on your behalf)
GUH I still worry she'll have some magic ace up her sleeve though >__>;;. What that could be I have no clue XD;;. But I'm prone to worrying until the situation is over...
