I've got literature report meeting today - where I sit down with my supervisors and advisor and discuss my progress and what I've fcuked up on. I'm glad they do this kind of stuff - I've been wanting a more structured type of work with more feedback for ages - but also nervous.
Yep - you want feedback, right up until the point it's offered. It's at that time that I always decide that, actually, I'd be fine just pootling along :)
Mine went OK - a somewhat nerve-wracking 2 hours of a mixture of feedback and getting questioned about various aspects of the science, but a lot of useful suggestions and comments, and no resubmission needed.
I'm still the SP5, which is smack in the middle - and thus good. However we had a very interesting conversation about me spending too much time "in my comfort zone" and posing ways to get a challenge. He suggested moving department. Gulp!
I'm an appraiser as well, for our third years - and I get really good feedback from them that they think the process works. I stick to the following:
What have you done in the last period? Good points/bad points from their viewpoint Our feedback Current plans for the next period and long term goals What needs to change to make them happier and how do we get it done?
