Yes. The Kuchiki family are one of the four noble houses, so they're SUPER noble and have been making babies the old-fashioned way for a while. Byakuya would likewise be expected to marry and make babies with someone else born in SS, and that's why it's so surprising that he adopted Rukia, even though he didn't adopt her as a daughter. Anything else I don't wanna say because I don't know what you know.

You already got the answers you were looking for, but yeah, I gather that the kids in Soul Society that died and ended up there as kids usually get to keep growing for a bit.

And you can have babies the natural way, but it takes a whole bunch of spiritual power, and not everybody can do it. So as jaina said, if you're capable of that, you're probably nobility or just really badass.

That was always really weird to me, btw. Dead people can have kids? That are...er, not exactly alive?? Not sense-making. :|

The other commenter totally seemed to answer this better than I could. The only thing I had to add was the idea that aging seemed to have something to do with the amount of spirit power you have. Which in turn seemed to have something to do with eating. Not sure where I got this idea...I think it was during some of the stuff showing Rukia and Renji growing up. My guess is that if you start off as a baby spirit, if you eat/become stronger, you age until i dunno...you decide you don't want to anymore. I could see the eating being an absorption of spirit power from SS and adding it to yourself?

Erm. That might have been really obvious. o.o;
