Jul 20, 2008 02:08

I did something today that at the same time scared and exilarated me. I joined a writing community. A non fan fiction writing community.
I'm frightened. I know I shouldn'tbe but..I am.  Why? I can do this I know I can so..why the trepadation when I set my fingers to the keys to do the prompt.
Am I afraid of leaving my safety zone?  I felt this ( Read more... )

I think it brilliant that you joined a writing community that is non partisan lol. I am a member of several. It will allow you to stretch. Good on you. We all must at some point in our respective lives stretch, see new ways and in the process enjoy the hell out of the art.

this one is called linebyline.
Once I started writing the prompt it flowed out by itself. Of course hubby wasn't a bit amused by my doing it at 4am. What can I say, us writers are quirky. I will literally leave my bed in the middle of the night to write for fear of forgetting.
Sad, truely sad...

Your muse does keep challenging hours woman. Still it is best to strike while the proverbial iron is hot(soft smile).

Kudos to you for taking the big leap! ^_^ It's understandable to be nervous. Original stories are the true children of our imagination...while I'm dearly attached to my fanfiction and consider them to be my creative offspring, I know that when I show fanfiction to the world I'm skipping a lot of creative steps...my readers are already familiar with the world and already in love with the characters. With original fiction, you must convince people to love YOUR characters, and usually theres pieces of ourselves in those characters, so theres a lot of emotion involved. And it can take time to get used to the difference, but it's an important step to take ( ... )

::shyly looking towards the ground:: Um..yeah I am writinga science fiction book.
It's about a woman who is a body guard. She is literally a walking weapon with micro circitry , which runs to a pulse type weapon in the palm of her hand called a Shocker.
She lives in a society where her type of person is considered dispoable and have no rights. She is paired with the man whose company makes the biomechanics for her and her kind.
He isn't really a bad guy, he is just unknowing as to what is going on in his own company.
I have almost seven chapters done and five women who say they are my first buyers when and if I get it published. LOL
So, thats what I am up to.

That sounds like my kind of sci-fi. Too bad that it's already somewhat true in that those unfortunate individuals without health insurance, who depend on mechanical devices and expensive meds, are quite disposable. Just leave them hanging long enough and they'll die without timely and appropriate care. No big deal. I've seen it happen too many times. People waiting on their disability applications to go through for years, dying right before they get the first check. Same way with other types of systems. See it at least twice, experience it first hand, and that's enough for me.
