[Max can't see much without his glasses on. But he glances vaguely up at her face, his hair crazy from sleep, hearing her pause to breathe before she answered]

Oh. [Max answered, relieved] I thought a demon was in the house. [He says this with utter seriousness. He DID spend time in that scary castle too. Bad memory is exceptionally bad, and Max reached out and hugged her waist]
