I don't really have much in the way of a response, as I'm still struggling with similar doubts in my own life, but just wanted to let you know that I'm still reading, and listening!
yeah, going to Texas and Korea has that effect on running into people ;-)
the AF is pretty cool for travelling, but the trade-offs include sanity of schedule and, at least for 2nd Lieutenants, a complete banhammer on having a social life, at least in the normal sense of getting a chance to hang out with your peers. Or maybe that's just the career field I'm in. *sigh*
I third these sentiments, but would like to add that a lot of scientists are religious, they just don't usually talk about it as much as the atheist ones. Proselytizing atheists are bothersome things, I think. Helping someone with issues they're having is different than trying to convince them they're wrong.
This sounds kinda ridiculous, but have you ever attended a Catholic mass?
Three times, actually. And one of those times I took communion, and my friend freaked out that I took away the sanctity of the mass even though i was episcopal at the time and therefore believed in Transubtantiation too. XP
But In one case, I was in a large cathedral and therefore couldn't hear anything.
I miss you. I know I suck at phone and I work too much. >_<
You know, working at the PAA I end up waiting on Dr. Brown (the minister at Cornerstone...) and I keep wanting to tell him that his church made one of my friends feel, I guess the word would be estranged, from her religion. I don't know what he'd say to that...
Anyway... I don't ever make fun or say anything bad about anyone being religious unless they try to force it on me. I want you to know that you can believe whatever you want and I'm behind you 110%. I'm sorry if I've made you feel awkward because of my comments or anything like that. I don't mean to make you feel bad or upset about any of that.
*hugs* I understand the journal is hard to update... I have problems updating mine a lot.
Don't worry about it. You and i are fine, we've talked about it before.
And you'll have to let me know when next you have some time off because I've been wanting some 'girl time' or shopping or something. I've not seen many people besides Andy lately.
You don't know how bad I want to go shopping... I need sweaters!
Anyway, we really need to get together... I have monday off, other than saturday and sunday for KuroKiiro. (I do want to go to Olive Garden one of those days since we are right there at the Greentree exit.)
well I know saturday we're going to the ren faire with Barker and Nina, but we could swing an Olive Garden trip- I mean you guys are literally 3 minutes away from Andy's house, so I'm sure we can touch base at some point over the weekend ^_^
I'm not sure how much I can add to the discussion, either, but I can say it was weird: Just before you posted this, I was thinking, "I wonder what Melissa's been up to," and was going to check your LJ, but then this popped up on my friends page! So, fun coincidence. :)
I was actually recently thinking about you too! I saw melanie randomly the other day and was wondering what was up to the other third of our physics group. But I'm still around Pittsburgh, out of grad school, and substitute teaching.
