i've been puttering about, tidying, cleaning and organising. i am still along way off (and there is a huge pile of clothing on the kitchen floor that i need to sort, launder and put into my teensy closet. seriously, like at the very least 8 laundry loads of clothing. i should go through and just throw out what i dont wear ( Read more... )

It's not the quality of the school that is going to get you a job, it's the quality of the work in your portfolio that will get you a job.

Sure they may look at your resume and say, "Wow, Emily Carr, she must have something!" or they may say "hmm, Emily Carr, they just aren't like they used to be." Either way, they will make the final decision on what is in your portfolio and how you present yourself.

So, keep on keeping on! I can totally relate to the age thing. There is a *HUG* difference between 18 and 22....I shudder to think how I was at 18 *shudder*.

yeah... there's nothing wrong with being 18, it's just that i have nothing in common with 18 year olds. and its like "okay, i JUST got over that 18 years old stuff and now i have to relive it vicariously through my peers? no THX."

dood, you are the most fashionable person I know.

(camera pans around to get a good look at the speaker for ironic contrast; hairy, shirtless man with knotted hair in pants three sizes too big, held up by a belt that isn't even in the right size. Inexplicably, he wears a toque.)

yes okay, so I am the least fashionable person I know. but as far as I'm concerned all fashion can be drawn on a line along a continuum stretching from you to me.

don't worry, i don't think much has changed with eciad and bad art. pax and i both started a long time ago and there was all bad art in foundation. by 4th year you'll probably be shocked at what you made then too. i think a lot of people really really change from 1st to 4th year. and no matter what your bfa won't put you in a great position for a job. you'll have to work hard at whatever you decide you want from it. depressing but BA's don't mean much. a BFA at least will put you in a better position for something creative. (even pax who was so great at theory and cultural classes has to throw most of that out for his corporate art job...this is depressing!) this said though i think it's a great degree and if you get serious about what you make you can always move on to an MFA afterwards ( ... )
