-----------------------------------------------
Here he was again. Sitting on his bed, and pulling out that intricate silver bracelet that held so many memories together. The charms- they meant something more to him than just a piece of jewelery. Each single charm had a memory tied to it- a memory that stung freshly in his mind because it even hurt to think about who was connected to most of these charms.
Jonghyun.
And every single day, before he'd go to bed, he'd sit down, and just simply stare at the charms and think of back then.
And that was what he was doing now.
A star.
"Hey Kibum!" Jonghyun called him over. Key looked up from his finger painting, and blinked, before smiling happily when he saw his best friend calling him. He wiped his hands quickly on his apron and he ran over, nearly tripping.
"What?" He looked at him curiously. He was curious about anything, and it was okay, since him and Jonghyun were in first grade.
"We should be best friends forever." Jonghyun told him, and Kibum nodded happily, smiling.
"Yes!" He replied, and Jonghyun went over to his desk, pulling out something. He returned, and Kibum realized it was a bracelet. Fragile, delicate, and it was silver. A miniature star hung from it.
"Here! This is for you." Jonghyun fumbled with it for a minute, before putting it on Kibum's wrist. It looked a bit too big... but he didn't mind.
"Is this for me?" Kibum blinked, and Jonghyun nodded, smiling.
"Do you like it? You always invited me over to play so I got this for you! And plus, you're such a star, it'd be great for you!"
"I love it! Best friends forever?" Kibum smiled brightly, and held out his pinky.
"Forever!" Jonghyun agreed, and linked his pinky with Key's.
A tiger.
"I had fun trick or treating with you!" Jonghyun told Key happily, eyes filled with admiration for Key. They were in fifth grade. It was amazing how Kibum looked really good....even in a raccoon suit.
"Really? I had fun with you too!" Key smiled and hugged him tightly, which caused Jonghyun to blush slightly.
"And here's one more treat for you! You still have the bracelet I gave you a long time ago, right?" Jonghyun asked, hopeful.
"Oh- yeah." Key held out his wrist, and the silver bracelet dangled off of his wrist.
"Here. You're my raccoon, and I'm your tiger." He said, and clipped on a tiger charm to his bracelet. Key stared happily at the new addition to his bracelet.
"Oh this is really adorable!" He exclaimed, and nearly knocked Jonghyun over with a huge hug.
"So you can remember that you mean a lot to me. That we go together.... like a raccoon and a tiger."
A four leaf clover.
They were in tenth grade now. It was a surprise that they were even still friends.
"I got this for you." Jonghyun murmured, pulling out a charm for Key's bracelet. They sat at the desolated playground that held memories for both of them, when they were young. They sat on the swings, not really swinging- but just simply talking.
"A four leaf clover?" Key blinked, he'd much rather get something that was more... pretty? It was interesting though.
"Yeah," Jonghyun attached the charm to his bracelet. "Because I'm lucky to have met you." And with that, Jonghyun leant in, soft brown colored eyes meeting Kibum's.
"I should be the one saying that." Key murmured absentmindedly, and butterflies filled him as soon as their lips met. He didn't know how anything couldn't have felt more better than this. A warm feeling filled him, and it lasted even when Jonghyun pulled away. This was something that he was going to remember forever.
A heart.
"Did you enjoy your first time?" Jonghyun grinned, as they lay close together. Kibum nodded, leaning over and kissing him on the cheek. He was somewhat surprised, yet in a good way, he'd never think that Jonghyun would be his first. But it was okay... it was someone he trusted and loved.
"I sort of planned this..." He took Kibum's wrist, and pulled something from the bedside table, before putting it onto his bracelet. It glinted from the light coming in from the window, and Kibum took a close look at it. It was an intricate glass heart.
"Because you're the key to my heart." Jonghyun whispered, and Kibum blushed, he couldn't imagine being with anyone else. Jonghyun truly meant something to him. Everything. Every single thought, it would always involve him. He was the key to Jonghyun's heart.
A diamond studded key.
"Get away from me." Jonghyun said coldly, and pushed Key away as soon as he tried to get close.
"But...But what did I do?" Key stared with hurt, eyes welling up with tears. This wasn't good. Especially since they hadn't been together lately, and now all Jonghyun seemed to want to do was hang out with that girl. Shin Sekyung or whatever her name was.
"I found someone else." The words were cold, and they were only words, yet they pierced through Key like a bullet.
"What?!" He exclaimed, eyes widening. He thought he was the key, the key to Jonghyun's heart. He'd promised there would be nobody else... "You heard me." Jonghyun's voice rose, and he shot a glare at him. This wasn't the Jonghyun he knew, that would go on shopping sprees with him, give him goodnight kisses...
"Who. Who is it?" Key forced himself to not seem upset, to not show a tiny bit of his emotion. But...but it was hard, hard to see the person he loved so much was pushing him away like this.
"You know Sekyung right?"
Silence.
It was her all along. I knew it, I knew it. Key thought, angry somewhat and yet somehow not surprised. He'd been hanging out with Sekyung for a long time.
"I know her."
"I love you. You know I do right? But things have to change.. and you have to move on." Jonghyun stared at Key now with some sort of sadness, something Key couldn't comprehend, he had never imagined this happening to him.
"Yeah." He couldn't say anything.
"For you." Jonghyun slid a small box towards him, and left.
"Fuck!" Key yelled angrily, as he threw his bracelet against the wall, the silence deafening. Tears streamed down his face now. He couldn't change what memories were tied in with this bracelet... happiness, love, and sadness.
he couldn't change who he was.
