Yeah, marriage sucks in this respect. My friend got reemed in his divorce, and has to pay his ex wife $1300 a month for the nexy year or so. Totally unfair.
I wish I could have found the original study referenced in the article, because I would like to know the sample group taken and, if multiple groups were, the effect on income depending on which group the married couple falls into. The reason I say that is because it makes sense to me that women would often get the short end because more women are likely to put their careers on hold for children and family. Somewhere in the recesses of my old xanga blog, I had an article from Slate that showed women who waited until their 30s to have children made significantly more income than women in their 20s. Many of these women would make less money than their ex-husband counterparts
