People can indeed find the poetic genius in whatever it is which truly speaks to them...and that yes, in today's society (which is far more free and lenient) religion is one aspect of life through which many people DO escape reality to find that other sense we are so certain they are looking for.

Your opening line is pure genius!!! Mitch that is so good. People these days are approaching religion because they WANT TO. It was like you state in your post, different for Blake's society, yet I truly believe, after reading his poetry and visions that it was the religion that enlightened him in the first place. It was as you also state the unflinching regime that didnt allow one to freely to use their vision and genius. I think the church has changed, but unfortunately it remains enclosed to the real needs of the society and even to the teachings it proposes to uphold. It still needs to look at many things that stop people from going to church, like the celibacy issue for clergy, like the ordination of women etc.. then will it truly be a freely open and visionary institution.
