Pedophilia is today's dark magic, the danger from which people should protect their children, the one thing that can get you in disgrace and ruin your life for a long, long, time. Even if you get cleared of charges of pedophilia, the doubt will always still remain: but what if ( Read more... )

Definitely not just you!

I agree with just about everything you said up there, including "the ones in power (are getting) more and more repressive."

Just the other day I was lamenting the huge, obvious, larger-than-the-title copyright warnings on a friend's CDs; and it seems every time I turn around someone's kicking up a fuss about TV content, radio content, internet content... and the fuss is about equally divided (at least in the case of the Web) between those agitating for regulation, and those agitating for the removal of regulation. We seem to be more and more tightly restricting the (mostly) harmless (music, political commentary, porn), and completely ignoring the dangers, or panicking over the wrong dangers.

Bah. If it comes down to it, I'd rather there be a hundred (age-restricted) chatrooms for paedophiles than one Livejournal strikethrough. After all, at least if they're hanging out in chatrooms, the Folk In Charge can keep an eye on them.

Of course, because the Powers that Be are interested in restricting or censoring anything critical to the terrible problems they're causing, or at least in diverting the public's attention off those issues.

And yeah, Strikethrough... *sigh* There's undeniably a limit to freedom, of course, every theorist agrees to that. The problem is: where's that limit? Once I heard the most efficient way to govern a country was through a dictatorship. So, efficiency or individual freedom? Collective good or personal pleasure?
