Title: How Can You Say Your Life Is Empty?
Rating: PG (For kissing?)
Summary: AU from Original Song where Kurt rejects Blaine at first and they find each other again at a local carnival. Fluff.
Blaine and Wes head over to the ferris wheel. Blaine sits down and just as Wes is about to, Kurt grabs Wes’s elbow and says “Do you mind?”
Wes looks at Blaine and back to Kurt before he puts up his hands in defeat, “I’m not getting invovled.” Wes walks down the steps as Kurt slips into the seat next to Blaine.
“What are you doing?” Blaine sighs, and Kurt can just tell he’s more than just annoyed.
Kurt isn’t sure what he wants to say. How do you start? He’s never had to do this before. “I want to talk.”
A long silence engulfs the space between them. Finally, Blaine breaks it. “I thought you were afraid of heights.” At this, Kurt looks down and oh god right, heights. He closes his eyes and refuses to open them.
He mumbles out a response. “Uh-huh.. yup. I am. But this is important.”
Loud metallic creaking makes Kurt’s voice shudder. “Oh boy... look. I’ve said some things yesterday.” Kurt struggles with his words as the ferris wheel screeches to a halt and their seat sways back and forth high in the sky.
“What’s going on?”
“We’re stopped.” Blaine replies matter of factly.
“Why, why are we stopped.” Kurt’s voice is shaking even more now and he’s starting to shake.
Kurt swears he can overhear Rachel’s loud voice saying “Keep them up for a few extra minutes, they could use it.” but isn’t willing to look down to confirm his suspicions.
“Are you sure you’re OK, Kurt?” Blaine’s voice has changed from teasing to more genuine. Kurt’s assuming if he opened his eyes and actually looked at Blaine, his face would reflect this change.
“ Yeah, I’m OK. It’s just - what kind of carnival is this anyways?” Kurt’s sarcasm is sneaking into his voice again.
Blaine leans forward and begins to rock them back and forth even more. He can't see it, but Kurt senses the smug look on Blaine's face.
“OK, look, I don’t talk.... a lot about stuff. I don't trust people but I trust you.” He pauses and tries to open his eyes but he’s so nervous (part the heights - part the nerves of this thing between them)
“I don't know why I said those things yesterday. And I want to make it, this. Us, work, no matter what. And if we ever get down from here maybe we can work on it?” Kurt ends the sentence more in a question than he wants to but he is honestly so unsure as to what Blaine’s response will be.”
Blaine teases him with his reply “Oh, well who knows when that’ll be.”
“Please don’t say that.”
Kurt can practically feel that Blaine is smiling and enjoying this. He wants to scowl and let snarky comments come flowing out of his mouth but somehow the words just won’t escape.
Blaine leans closer and says “Look, maybe you just need something to take your mind off of it.”
“We’re 50 feet in the air, Blaine, how to expect me to poss-” and before Kurt can finish his sentence, Blaine’s lips and pressing against his and Blaine’s hands are resting on his cheeks.
Kurt opens his eyes and realizes that this is Blaine and they’re kissing and holy crap they’re still high up above the ground. He closes his eyes again and chooses to focus on Blaine’s soft lips against his.
Without realizing it, they’re suddenly back at the bottom platform and the carnival worker is loudly coughing. “You guys gettin’ off the ride or what?”
Kurt pulls his lips from Blaine just long enough to say “One more time.” before turning back and sliding closer to Blaine.
Maybe heights weren’t such a bad thing after all.
