I actually didn't come up with this tool myself. Michelle found it for me. The progress would be more except I found out that I was reading the pattern page incorrectly and I had started in the middle of the scarf. If I see two vertical bars of stripes, I'll start on the top leftand work down. Apparently, I was supposed to start on the bottom left, work up, then move over to the right and work top down.
Actually, the colors will get brighter as I get more done. The little bar is the tiny bit of brown that I've completed. Next color is yellow and then orange. I'm very excited.
I did think the colors looked kind of pastel...but I wasn't going to say anything, because if you want a pastel striped scarf then it is not my place to question!
In college I used to be "that guy" that would wear scarves in non-scarf-appropriate weather cause I thought it looked cool. I lost a lot of scarves doing that, as I wore them all the time and would forget about them when I left class without them (it's hot out!).

I didn't realize this was quite such a massive undertaking!
