I'm still playing TS2 more than TS3. I keep trying to get the time to play TS3 but I end up thwarrting myself by entering various challenges that pretty much ensure that I keep playing TS2!
I actually do quite like TS3. About a month ago I took about 3 or 4 days out of my TS2 schedule to play TS3 and I actually quite liked it. It could be that for me there is quite a lot to explore still in the game. I think that the game has potential. I hope EA keep improving it rather than totally stuff it up. I hated TS2 when it first came out. The camera kept getting away from me and I couldn't keep the sims alive. I almost uninstalled it! The camera keeps getting away from me in TS3 and I can't get the sims to build relationships. I'm hoping that if I give it a chance, it will end up growing on me like TS2 did. Because TS2 was definitely worth giving a second and then a third and even a fourth chance.
I'm one of those that think of TS2 and TS3 as two different games. Not necessarily a bad thing for TS3, but I should have foreseen a logical consequence of it - TS3 will not satisfy my TS2 needs. I miss TS2 :(
But don't get me wrong. It's a good game and it has HUGE potential, I'm sure the community will make something wonderful of it eventually, and with more EPs and store content it can only get better. But right now I'm in a simming crisis apparently, I need a TS2 fix :)
Ooooh ooooh I wanna do this too. It's gonna be long :)
TS3
I DON'T like the look and the lighting. The outdoor lighting does nasty things to sims faces and makes them look like clay puppets. Hopefully someone somewhere will make a lighting mod. Before that, it's almost pointless to take pictures of sims outside. Lighting aside, I don't like many of the expressions sims make. Ever seen La Pianiste? You know that face Erika makes at the end of the movie? (If you've seen it, you'll know what face I'm talking about. If you like sick movies and somehow missed this one, I'm not gonna spoil it for you.) Well, that's the expression I see a lot in TS3 and it's scary! No modder will ever gonna fix it. I think sims should have remained tongueless creatures. The general look and the lighting are beautiful. Maybe too beautiful but I'll get used to that for sure
