Well, *I'm* less likely to participate, if I have a deadline. Because I HATE deadlines. And it's not about being "lazy." Work comes first. Then family. And then housework & getting over sleep deprivation.
I understand this. I didn't want to have a deadline, but it was the group decision to have one. It's not so much that ppl didn't feel like participating, but rather that they said they would and then didn't. And it's not like it was one person... more like 4-5. I just want to know what ppl think I should do.. are ppl going to send more mixes? Should I wait? Is October a less busy month? Should we just stop trying? What? Do you see my problem/ question?
Yeah; that's quite a different story, when people commit, and then back out.
I dont know. If I remember correctly, the mod had something else going on as well, and the other thing is what failed, so he kind of let this go, too. I dont believe there was ever a shortage of mixes. Maybe say you'll keep it open until the end of the month, at which time, you'll send back mixes to people. Then there is kind of a deadline while it gets back up and running, and people can know when to expect mixes back. Or something like that.
yeah, i say give an extension, like profs do at schools...
and it certainly is possible to have had non-lazy reasons for not meeting a deadline... but let's face it (and i say this as someone who more often than not is on the late side of things) usually it's just laziness.
...which isn't a big deal either. extensions are good things.
(keeping in mind that it is also very silly to say that yr down with the idea of a deadline, and then not meet it... but it happens to everyone, so let's just make an extension and see what happens... if people meet it, we have ourselves a trade!)
if not, we all disband and join different families.
No One Asked My Opinion......slaapliedjeOctober 10 2006, 21:07:45 UTC
But here it is : )
I was interested in taking part, but the end of September was just a little too quick for what I had going on at the time. Therefore, I did not commit to taking part. Another reason I did not commit, I felt like there were too many people taking part and from what I was reading, I wasn't convinced that everyone was going to live up to their end of the deal. I figured it wouldn't hurt to watch from the sidelines and see how things went.
Suggestions for the future:
01. give at least a months time......five weeks wouldn't hurt. 02. two weeks out, post a simple reminder that mixes are due to be mailed in two weeks. 03. one week out, post another reminder and point out that no one emailed saying they wouldn't be ready on time. 04. ask the members of the group to post to the group when they've mailed their mixes off (nothing like a little peer pressure). 05. post updates as you receive each mix letting us know who you received them from. 06. post letting us all know that you mailed the mixes out.

... your opinion was most definitely asked for and appreciated. I agree with a lot of what you said... perhaps I didn't allow for enough time. I think I'm going to extend this deadline. I will try to do the reminders and the postings like you suggested, but contrary to popular belief and possibly my own desire, my life does not consist of nothing but MixSwap... i get busy too and I find it hard to have to remind ppl so bloody often. I don't think it's that hard to remember. Thanks for the opinion. Hopefully you can participate soon?
Crap I miised this post completely sorry. I'm easy really. Either send what mixes you have or just wait until there's 5 sets of mixes and send then. I'd rather get some mixes eventually than just my own sent back.
That dude (possibly lady) made a lot of sense although, to me, a month seems excessive cos I usually have mine done in a week tops but then I need 2 weeks postage allowance so I suppose it is reasonable enough. Like, whatev.
