Nichkhun breezed into the office, his assistant greeting him at the door.  “Good morning Sir, you didn’t tell me you were coming in later today, so I had to do some last minute moves on your meetings.”  She noted.

“That’s fine.  Actually, move all my meetings to next week, there’s a personal matter I need to take care of.  I’m taking a few days off too.”  Nichkhun smiled.

“Sir, are you sure?  You haven’t taken a day off since you started the company.”  His assistance was in disbelief.

“I know, that’s why I’m taking a few now.  Just tell my clients I needed to attend to something, I’ll be available via email but I won’t be able to meet or call them till next week.”  Nichkhun instructed.

“As you wish sir, also, Ms. Victoria is waiting for you in her office.  I tried to tell her that you were busy like you always say but she insisted on seeing you.”

Nichkhun rolled his eyes and sighed.  He had nearly forgotten about Victoria, and although he knew he had slept with Wooyoung the night before, he actually didn’t feel too guilty about it, in fact this was the perfect opportunity to break up with her.  He walked into his office and just as he imagined, Victoria was sitting in one of the chairs, an impatient look on her face.

“I went to your place last night, we had a date remember?”  She said without turning her head.

“I’m sorry, I had to take care something really important.”  Nichkhun walker over to his chair and sat down, looking at the girl in her face.  “I must have forgotten to let you know.”

Victoria glared at him.  “That’s a really bad habit.  You regularly forget to cancel on me.”  She pursed her lips.

Nichkhun knew this could get dirty but he didn’t want any more problems so he leaned forward and flushed his anger.  “Look, I’m really sorry, it’s just I have an old friend from college in town and I wanted to catch up.”  Nichkhun said.  “Besides, I think it’s time to talk about us.”  He leaned back in his chair.

“I agree, I think we should a date for the wedding.”  Victoria smiled.

“That’s not what I had in mind.  We’re not even engaged.”  Nichkhun noted.

“No, but we will be.”  Victoria said.

“Actually, Victoria… this is really hard for me to tell you.  You are a great friend to me, and you have been really supportive these past few years, and originally I thought I could possibly grow to love you.  It’s certainly not because you are not a worthy woman, rather I don’t feel as if we could be happy.”  Nichkhun said.

“Are you breaking up with me?”  Victoria asked.

Nichkhun gulped.  “I’m sorry, but yes.  I think it’s best.”  Nichkhun looked at her.

Victoria giggled.  “You can’t be serious?  I helped you gain the image you needed to grow this company and you’re just letting me go like some inefficient employee.  I’m not your employee Nichkhun.”  Victoria debated.

“No, you’re not.  However, I don’t love you.  How do you expect me to make a life with you when I have no intentions on being with you.”  Nichkhun answered.

“What does love have to do about this?”  Victoria asked.

“I don’t marry for opportunity Victoria.  I will marry for love, and I’m sorry, I’m not in love with you.”  Nichkhun persisted.

Victoria leaned back and stayed silent then spoke.  “Who is she?”

“Excuse me?”  Nichkhun said confused.

“There must be someone else.  Why else would you break up with me?”  Victoria deduced.

“I’m sorry but you’re wrong.  I’ve been quite unhappy in this relationship for months now, there is no one to blame but ourselves.”  Nichkhun said.

“There is someone else.  There is no other reason for this if there wasn’t someone else.  Tell me Nichkhun, have you slept with this person yet?”  Victoria asked.

“Vic, please don’t do this.”  Nichkhun said.

“I can’t believe it.  I’ve been nothing but good to you, and you cheat on me?”  Victoria assumed.

“Look, I already said I wasn’t happy.  It doesn’t matter who he is, or what I’ve done.”  Nichkhun started to become heated.

“He?  He?”  Victoria was making sure she heard right.  At this realization, Nichkhun suddenly began to regret his impulsive statement.

“Are you telling me, you’re in love with another man?”  Victoria said.

“It doesn’t concern you anymore.  Please, just leave.”  Nichkhun asked.

“You’re going to regret this.  One day, you’ll see that your happiness was in my hands, you’ll end up in heart break.”  Victoria said before standing to leave.

“Vic, I’m sorry.”  Nichkhun apologized again.

“You will be more sorry later.”  Victoria turned her head slightly and walked out.

Nichkhun sighed, wishing he could have done this right, wishing he could have broken it off with Victoria earlier or if anything that he had stopped Wooyoung from leaving four years ago.  It didn’t make a difference, what had happened had happened and all he could think of despite Victoria, was his future with Wooyoung and Alex and that entirely made him happy.

Nichkhun finished some last few tasks and set out for taking the rest of the week off, handing some documents for his assistant to process for him.  “I’ll be back on Monday, till then I hope you can hold down the fort.”  Nichkhun smiled.  He walked out and all he could think of was getting back to Wooyoung’s house.  When he got there, he found Wooyoung busily working at his desk, typing away.  Nichkhun crept up behind him and and surprised him but kissing his cheek.

“Oh! My! God!”  Wooyoung stood up afraid, turning around to see Nichkhun chuckling at the frightened man.  “Khun, you almost gave me a heart attack.”  Wooyoung calmed himself as he gasped for air.

Nichkhun laughed.  “Baby, I’m so sorry.  It’s just you were working so hard, I didn’t want to disturb you.”  He pulled Wooyoung close, hugging his back.

“I’m sorry, I guess I’m just not used to having anyone in the house when Alex is in school.  Why are you here anyways, shouldn’t you be at work?”  Wooyoung asked.

“I just found you, you think I want to waste my time doing anything but being next to you?  You’re not going to get rid of me that fast.”  Nichkhun said, laying a soft kiss on Wooyoung’s neck.

“Of course not.”  Wooyoung smiled.  “But what about work?”

“It can wait.  I waited four years for you.  You and Alex is all I can think of right now anyways.”  Nichkhun said before turning Wooyoung around and kissing him on the lips.

Night had quickly come, and both men had helped to put the boy to sleep.  Alex still looked at Nichkhun with some curiosity, he had been so used to Wooyoung having this new man around was somewhat exciting yet new, but even at Alex’s young age he knew he was safe, he watched as his father seemed to be almost playful and cheery with Uncle Khun around and it only made the little boy more comfortable with Nichkhun.

It was time for bed and Wooyoung carried the boy into his bedroom, settling him into bed.  “Good night Alex.”  Wooyoung said and kissed the boy softly.

“Daddy, a story please.”  Alex requested.

“Okay, just one.  Then you need to go to sleep.”  Wooyoung agreed as Nichkuhn leaned against the door frame and listened in.

“Uncle Khun has to read too.”  Alex said eyeing the man in the doorway.

“You have to ask Uncle Khun first.”  Wooyoung smiled.

“Uncle Khun, will you read too?”  Alex lifted his head up from the pillow.

“Is there enough room for me on your bed?”  Nichkhun smiled.

“Yeah, there’s lots of room.  You can sit next to daddy!”  Alex sat up and Wooyoung moved over making more room for Nichkhun who leaned his body into Wooyoung’s. Alex pulled a book from under his pillow and handed it to Wooyoung.

“Oh Alex, we always read this book.”  Wooyoung complained.

“I know, it’s my favorite!”  Alex smiled.  Wooyoung shook his head and smiled too and he and Nichkhun began to read the story, alternating pages.  They hadn’t even reached the last three pages when soft snores from the sleeping boys started to overpower the whispering voices of the two men.

Nichkhun tapped Wooyoung on the shoulder and pointed to the sleeping child.  “I think he’s asleep.”

“Yeah.  We can go now.”  Wooyoung said.

“Wait, I just want to look at him for a little longer.”  Nichkhund held Wooyoung on his lap for a few moments.  “You make beautiful kids, Youngie.  God, he is so handsome like his daddy.”  Nichkhun nuzzled closer to Wooyoung.  Wooyoung immediately felt uneasy, wondering how Nichkhun would react if he learned that those compliments should be directed to himself.

“Come on, otherwise he’ll want us to sleep with him.”  Wooyoung patted Nichkhun’s thigh, urging him to get up. Nichkhun followed and walked Wooyoung hand in hand towards his bedroom.

“Can I tuck in Daddy?”  Nichkhun laughed.

“Stop.  Besides, I think we need to talk… this is all very sudden, but what is going on here?”  Wooyoung asked.

“What do you mean?”  Nichkhun asked confused.

“Well us?  How does this work?”  Wooyoung asked.

“I don’t know.  I mean, your life is already established, it’s built around Alex - I guess it’s up to you if and when you want to welcome me in.”  Nichkhun answered.

Wooyoung looked up, he had never expected Nichkun to walk back into his life.  In fact, he had always assumed that Nichkhun would never reappear, but here he was, and not only was he seeking a relationship with Wooyoung but with Alex, which made Wooyoung even more afraid that the truth would only upset the man.  Wooyoung wanted Nichkhun, had never allowed himself to get over the other, even despite having to take care of Alex and having Alex take over that overall spot in his life, his heart still longed for Nichkhun - and he desperately wanted to live in this moment forever.

“I want you here.  With me, with us.  I know it sounds incredibly selfish for me to ask you to give up your own life, but… I need you.  I want you.”  Wooyoung said honestly and Nichkhun just looked at him and nodded.

“Then I’m here.  I’ll be here, for you and for Alex.”  Nichkhun said before kissing him on the lips. “Wooyoung-ah, I love you.”  Nichkhun said.  Both men slept in the same bed again that night, and Nichkhun became more and more of a facet in Wooyoung and Alex’s life, spending almost all of his home time at Wooyoung’s place even placing his own loft as a sublet, deciding he needed to be with Wooyoung at his home and it started to quickly feel as if it was becoming their home.

Wooyoung was even more surprised how quickly Nichkhun started to become accustomed to taking care of Alex, and the boy although sometimes curious took Nichkhun’s new move into their home very well, even enough to have Nichkhun to bring him to school early in the morning as Wooyoung slept in.

It had been a few months since Nichkhun moved in and while Wooyoung had brought Alex to school this morning, Ms. IU greeted him at the door.

“Oh Mr. Jang, I wasn’t expecting you.”  Ms. IU said.

“Yes, I brought Alex today.  Nichkhun had to be in for an early meeting.”  Wooyoung smiled.

“I see, is Nichkhun Alex’s uncle?”  Ms. IU asked.

“Yes, he’s my uncle Khun!”  Alex smiled.

“Hey Alex, how about you go say hi to your friends inside.”  Wooyoung knelt down and patted the boy softly as Alex ran inside.

“Nichkhun is a friend of mine, I’ve been working on some really pending deadlines lately and he’s been helping me take care of Alex.”  Wooyoung explained.

“Oh.  I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.  It’s just Alex looks so much like Mr. Nichkhun.  Almost like…”  Ms. IU began to say then just shook her head.  “Nevermind, maybe it’s because Alex is so handsome, it’s easy to confuse that he looks so much like Nichkhun.”  Ms. IU chuckled to herself.

“You think Nichkhun is handsome?”  Wooyoung asked amused.

“Well yes, he’s very handsome.  And so are you.  And so is Alex.  It’s just to me, when I see Alex with Nichkhun, it would make more sense that Alex is his son, instead of yours.”  Ms. IU said carefully but Wooyoung was now aware of it.

“Oh.  Yes, that’s funny.”  Wooyoung did the best laugh he could do despite his worry that it was starting to become obvious that he and Alex were not father and son.  “Maybe it’s because Alex and Nichkhun has been spending so much together.”  Wooyoung tried to cover it up.

“Maybe.  But it’s almost like Alex is his clone, his eyes, his smile… it’s resemblances your friend so much.”  Ms. IU noted.

Wooyoung stayed silent.  “I can’t explain it then.”  He just shrugged his shoulders.

“Well then, I should start class.  You have a good day Mr. Jang.”  Ms. IU smiled sweetly and went inside.  Wooyoung’s mind was running around in circles, he started to think that the more Alex and Nichkhun spent time, more people would take notice that Alex looked more like Nichkhun’s child than his, and how could he ever explain it.  Even when Alex was a newborn, he resembled Nichkhun so much, Wooyoung had started to think maybe that’s why it was so easy for him to love Alex because a part of his heart had already loved those eyes and that smile.

Suddenly Wooyoung’s phone rang and he went to answer it.  “Baby, I can get Alex after school.  My afternoon meetings were cancelled.  So you can get some work done.”  Nichkhun’s voice came over the phone.

Wooyoung felt a heaviness in his heart, it had been three months and he still hadn’t found the courage to tell Nichkhun the truth.  “Thank you.  I can run to the store then.”  Wooyoung said.

“No let me do it.  What do you need?”  Nichkhun asked so dutifully.

“Just some lettuce and tomatoes.”  Wooyoung noted.

“Okay, anything else?”  Nichkhun asked.

“Courage.”  Wooyoung’s mind spoke to him but instead his mouth spoke.  “No that’s it.”

“Alright, see you at home.  Love you.”  Nichkhun said then hung up.  How Wooyoung could ever tell Nichkhun the truth, he didn’t know.  He needed more time to grow the courage to tell him the truth, this was all getting too hard for him and deeper he allowed himself to get the harder it seemed, he had to tell Nichkhun - sooner rather than later, Wooyoung just didn’t want to risk of losing everything.

Wooyoung waited for Nichkhun and Alex to arrive home and as soon as the pair arrived, Alex immediately jumped into Wooyoung’s arms.

“Daddy, Uncle Khun and I went to the store, and he bought me ice cream!”  Alex smiled, some dried vanilla ice cream staining his lips.

“He did?  Bad Uncle Khun, he’s going to ruin your dinner.”  Wooyoung hugged the boy tightly.

“Mmmhhmm.”  The boy hummed.

“I even bought some for Daddy.”  Nichkhun held up a small barrel of ice cream.  “I’ll put these away.”  He said walking into the kitchen.

“Did you have a good day Lex?”  Wooyoung asked.

“Yeah daddy, I wish you came to pick me up with Uncle Khun.   We had so much fun!”  Alex giggled.

“I’m glad you had fun.  How about you go play in your room for awhile, Uncle Khun and I need to talk.”  Wooyoung pinched his son’s cheeks which were more like his than Nichkhun’s.

“Ok dad.”  Alex said than ran off.

“He’s a great kid, Woo.  You have to ask him to sing you the song he learned today, he does it so cute.”  Nichkhun smiled.

“He’s starting to grow on you.”  Wooyoung said.

“More than I could ever imagine.”  Nichkhun smiled.  “You know, I really feel at home here, I never imagined having a family - but you and Alex… you’re giving me something I thought I would never have but now I know I would desperately miss.”  Nichkhun said.  Wooyoung walked over to him and wrapped his arms around the other’s waist.

“I’m really glad you’re here.  You’re helping me so much.  I don’t even know how I did it for four years.”  Wooyoung rested his head on Nichkhun’s shoulder.

“Hey, you did a terrific job.  Alex is happy and healthy.  You’re a great dad, I can only hope that I will be just as good as you.”  Nichkhun said and Wooyoung froze, his eyes opening a bit wider.

“Look, Khun we need to talk.”  Wooyoung said pulling away.

“Yeah, I wanted to tell you something too.”  Nichkhun said.  “So Alex and I were in line at the grocery store, when this lady came up to us and noted how much we looked like father and son.  I had to explain to her that Alex was not my son but she insisted that he was.  She really couldn’t believe that Alex wasn’t my son.”  Nichkhun laughed.  “Isn’t that funny?”

Wooyoung felt heavier.  “Yeah, who wouldn’t believe that?  You’re both starting to act like father and son.”  Wooyoung said. “Khun, I need to tell you something, it’s really important.”  Wooyoung began to say but was cut off.

“Let’s go away for Christmas this year.  I bought this mountain cabin, it’s really nice in the winter - Alex will love the snow.  It will make for the perfect Christmas.”  Nichkhun said.

Christmas.  If there was one thing Wooyoung had always wanted to give Alex it was a perfect Christmas.  Every year he tried to make it the best he could, but seeing that it was only the two of them, it never felt quite right.  “That sounds nice.”  Wooyoung said.  “You have four years of Christmas presents to make up to Alex.”  He joked.

“I have four years of Christmas, birthday gifts to make up to the both of you.”  Nichkhun smiled pulling on Wooyoung’s arm.

“Okay, well don’t out do yourself.” Wooyoung replied.

“Why not?  I want to give you the very best.  You and Alex. “ Nichkhun smiled and Wooyoung couldn’t deny that Nichkhun’s intentions didn’t touch his heart.  He had struggled to provide for Alex and himself, and to know that someone else was both giving and taking into their family felt really good, good enough to hold Wooyoung’s tongue for a little while longer.
