I really want to learn Japanese... without taking a class because that's not really an option for me right now. If any of you guys have any suggestions for me on the best way to go about self-teaching... myself... the language (reading/writing/speaking/whatever) please let me know. Especially if you've self-taught yourself, I'd really appreciate ( Read more... )

I have the same problem, I've got a couple books, but staying motivated (with work and other busy life things) is hard. I wish someone in my area offered classes, but no one does. :-P

It really seems the best way to stay motivated would be to take a class... But I think once you find a way (if teaching yourself) that keeps you interested in learning, whatever it may be, will also help you to stay motivated. :D I haven't found a way just yet, but with the feedback I'm getting here, I think I will be soon!

Oh yes, I know how to write them, too. :) And I have an iPod Touch so whatever apps you think would help please let me know! :D

Thanks so much for the help. I have looked around myself for different sites and things, but they're usually for like super beginners or like super advanced with kanji and stuff, so I need something for me which is somewhere in the middle. xD So thanks for the info!

a friend of mine taught himself and he said he used 2 things. rosetta stone and pod casts. the pod casts are free so thats awesome.

also there is thing called human japanese that another friend of mine started using. i dont know how good it was, though, because she sort of gave up on it. i looked at it and it seemed helpful so you might want to try it!

there is also a website you might try. its called genkijapan.net. the man who owns this also has a youtube channel and thats where i learned how to sing "mary had a little lamb" in japanese!

i really want to learn too, but i dont really have time. i will one day though!!! i wish you luck my friend!

If you did not start yet, try yesjapan.com
the first lessons are free, then you have to sign up for monthly plan. but it's really great for selftutoring. you get videos, you learn stuff, conversations, and in the end you can ask for help if something is not working for you. I think its a fair deal.
