I'm sure it was just old age. I've had cockatiels and that's a good old age for one. I'm sure it was quick, probably his little heart just stopped. If he'd been suffering, you would have heard him. Don't blame yourself, sweetie.

I googled tonight for lifespan and the consensus seems to be 10-20 as a range, with 10-15 being the norm, so I guess he did well.

Believe me when I say that he was a well-cared-for bird. You and Mom treated him well. I'm sure he went quickly.
I'll miss the sound of his chirping in the background as we talk. It will be unusually still and quiet this summer.
