Book #57: Pride and Prejudice

I listened to this as an audiobook. There were many versions to choose from and I went with the one performed by Lindsay Duncan. She did well - good character voices, lively presentation, and her accent is beautiful. This is a good way to reread classics that I love.

I agree! There's a good recording at the library in my work town, though I don't remember the name of the actress. I listened to one version a few years ago read by an American actress, and it was...not right. The British accent is an important part of the experience.

There is NO WAY an American can read Jane Austen out loud.

It was not good. I kept having to pause and rant (to myself) about how she was pronouncing everything wrong - or just to yell "why?" It's not like there's a shortage of British voice actors...
