Freedom is just that - you are free to focus intentionally on a simple life and on prayer - AND you are free to consider marriage if God should lead you in that direction. No need to foreclose anything unless you are
called to a monastic community. An authentic monastic spirit can be maintained in ordinary life, if you so choose. Freedom is God's gift. Revel in it.

Yes, FJ. And, my choice is to not marry.
I've had ample opportunity but it is so
wonderful to be able to know a whole lot
of people, to love them, appreciate them
and not have to worry about jealousies,
or getting sexually entangled. I am enjoying
folks and hoping they are enjoying me. I
think you understand. I am just a little
bit happy, even in times where there is
struggle, it is purposeful and the focus
is on the love of Christ.

did father seem to understand when you explained it that way? surely he's known other women who found a kind of monasticism in widowhood.

Nope. Monasticism isn't valued in the Diocese
of Detroit. Why, I don't know.

Father thinks I should be 'complete.' I told
him that maybe one day I'd marry and raise
a family. He almost burst a bloodvessel.
