My C6DVD Contributions

Feb 14, 2010 22:23

My recipient was simplystars (which was funny, as she was the first person I ever wrote fic for in a a fic exchange, back in 2008). I did two (Turtle/Dief and RayK/Fraser) and the backstory for the Turtle/Dief card is under the cut below.

And I had so much fun creating them that I signed up to do a treat as well, for kyriacarlisle. It's Frannie/RayK.

Links to both can be found at the Master list post here.

It was a lovely treat to be able to work on something other than my dSBigBang Story Of Much Hugeness.

Thank you again to isiscolo for organizing this wonderfully fun exchange!!!

And whoever sent me mine - tell me, please, so I can thank you again!!!!

As was usual for their grocery trips, Fraser was searching for Ray. They always started together, but inevitably Ray’s distractability split them up as he was either transfixed by something new on the shelf, or went on a hunt for some very specific thing he couldn’t name, “But I’ll know it when I see it, Ben.”

This time, when Fraser found Ray he was in the greeting card aisle, which was a first. Even more strange was that he was in front of what had to be the St. Valentine’s Day cards - the entire display was awash in red and pink. Ray looked up as Fraser got close and grinned, holding out a card to show him.

Fraser read the front, and then opened the card to find the expected bad joke inside. “May I ask who this card is for?”

“How do you know it isn’t for you?” Ray replied with a wink.

“Well, I suppose it could be,” Fraser admitted. “But I would like to think that were we to exchange cards, which we never have, you wouldn’t pick it out right in front of me.” He stopped himself from adding, and it would be in better taste.

Ray started bouncing nervously. “I didn’t think we did the card thing. Are we supposed to do the card thing?”

“Not necessarily, no.”

“Because if you want cards, I can do that.”

Fraser sighed inwardly. “That’s not what I was trying to…” He handed the card back to Ray. “Who is this for, Ray?”

“It’s for Dief.”

“You’re buying Diefenbaker a card?”

“Yeah. Well, sort of. I mean, I’m buying it, but it’s from Mac, not me.”

“We don’t give one another cards, but you think Mac and Dief should?”

Ray crossed his arms across his chest. “Shit - you are mad about the card thing. I figured you’d think Valentine cards were too girly.”

“I’m not mad, Ray. I just don’t understand the point of buying a card for your turtle to give Diefenbaker.”

“The point? The point is that those two need to get over the feud they’ve got going and start getting along.”

“Ray, I know that you think turtles and wolves are natural enemies, but I can assure you that isn’t the case.” Fraser held up a hand to forestall Ray’s argument. “And even if it were, I’ve spoken to Diefenbaker, and he insists that he harbors no ill will toward Mac.”

“Yeah, well no ill will isn’t the same as buddies. I want them to be buddies.”

It took some effort, but Fraser kept the sarcasm out of his tone as he answered. “And you think a card will help.”

Ray grinned and waved the card in front of Fraser. “Yep. Look, it even has a reptile on it. What do you think?”

“I think Mac will find it beneath his dignity. And that Dief will know it was all your idea.”

Ray shrugged. “Well, it’s worth a shot. I’ll tell him Mac asked me to pick it out.” Fraser gave him his version of the you have got to be kidding me look.

“What? Like Dief never asks you for anything.”

“He’s an exceptionally greedy wolf, and I rarely indulge him.”

“Well, indulge me on this, will you? What could it hurt?”

Ray did have a point. “If you think it will help, by all means you should buy it.”

Ray smiled and tossed the card and envelope into the cart. “Cool. Hey, did you find the kind of nachos I like?”

For the record, Dief did know it was Ray, but he appreciated the gesture. What the turtle thought about it is anybody’s guess, as he refused to comment.

happy updates, due south fic
