Day 10
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Well, this one is quite difficult, as there are so many tropes I love (which is why I get Trope Bingo cards every year). But as time is limited (by kidlet stuff) I'll stick to one I adore - fake/pretend relationships. Omigod I love this soooooooooooo much, especially when the parties involved have been secretly pining for each other. The longing glances, the angst over wanting the relationship to be real, the obliviousness of never seeing the other feels exactly the same. And then, finally, the truth comes out and after disbelief gives way to hope, then happiness? Delicious.
I went to a panel on this trope last year, and it was glorious, and yielded some great recs. So here we go!
Grimm
(We're Looking For) Something Dumb to DoI'm partway through Grimm, and really love the canon, but slash-reader that I am, when it comes to fic I love Nick/Monroe. This one starts with the accidental marriage trope, and quickly becomes fake relationship. This fic makes me smile, and I hope it does for you too.
Star Trek: AoS
A Sequence That You Never LearnedThis amazing fic is one I love to re-read. Great characterizations (I love me some smart!Kirk), and a fabulous reason for the fake relationship - Jim wants to adopt a Vulcan child (for really plausible reasons, seriously) but can only do so if he is a Vulcan citizen, or marries one. Prepare for much tugging on heartstrings.
Stargate:Atlantis
Rules of EngagementThis fic was recced at the panel, and while I've never seen a full ep of SGA, I still really enjoyed it.
MCU
And here we have one of my favorite pairings, Clint/Coulson. I lovelovelove them, and have several recs that fit the trope.
Operation SnapdragonOh how I love this fic, because not only do Phil and Clint have ot pretend to be a couple, they're planning their wedding. Funny and angsty and wonderful.
Bicycle Made for TwoWaking up in Vegas with a ring on your finger, but no memory of how it got there? That's how Clint gets to start his day.
Your Family is my FamilyThis also has the Meet the Family trope, which I love too. Clint goes home with Phil for the holidays, pretending to be his boyfriend. So much fluff and fun!
And a REQUEST - there was a fic I read last spring, Hobbit movie fandom, Bilbo/Thorin fake relationship. It was long, and basically they got married for vaguely political reasons, and I cannot remember the name or author on AO3. It was recced at the BP panel, but I can no longer find the post with the rec. If any of you know what it is, I would LOVE to have the link.
