I'm not a vegetarian, but have good friends who are; I'll drop them a note and ask them to give you a helping hand here. Soy comes to mind, tho I'm not sure what else.
I think I've tried the black bean burgers they make, and if I recall, they were pretty good :) I'll give the veggie sausage patties a try. Good suggestion! Thanks.
I know you sadi in your Bio not to ask to add you as a friend, but then in Yahoo you have cahnexd your mind, all I know is I was interested enough to read most of your journal and would like to continue to do so, so I will add you as a friend if that's ok.
My LiveJournal is open to anyone who'd like to read it :) My Yahoo Messenger on the other hand, is limited to only personal friends. So I didn't really change my mind about anything, just made a distinction between what I keep personal and what I'm willing to share :) Welcome!
Protein drinks ARE generally nasty. I'll tell you what, though, there's all the world of difference between whey protein (not bad) and soy (Ass would taste GOOD compared to that sludge - ugh
( ... )
oh, if you are strictly vegan (which you didn't say you were, but just to mention), you will object to gelatin, whey, and eggs, but the truth is, other than beans, there ain't much protein in the vegan world, and getting 70 grams on a vegan diet, is damn hard, as every dietician will concede, even those who don't object to veganism. I've read on the subject for years and nobody out there has really found anything in the veggie world other than the same old same old as a good protein source. Most vegans I know get NOWHERE near 70 grams.
Ad no, I'm not srictly vegan, and it's been years since I subscribed to a any kind of vegetarian philosophy :) But the years of eating that way have sort of programmed me to avoid certain things, it's just the retraining myself to eat more meat, eggs, etc... that has been a challange.
Using unflavored gelatin never occured to me, but it's a pretty good idea. Perhaps mixing protein sources in my other foods is the way to go. Like your suggestion of the unflavored whey powder. Maybe small amounts of it in other things will add up throughout the day and make a difference.
And yeah, 70 grams is a lot, but the increase in protein along with physical activity really has seemed to work for me, so I'm just gonna keep trying to incease until I get near that 70 gram goal :)
