I want I nifty user pic like other folks.  I don't know how to get one.  Help?

Step 1) Find a userpic - this can be a photo you already have on your computer, or an image that is up on the internet.
Step 2) Make sure it's a small photo file - LJ will accept most of them, but if they take up too much memory it won't work.
Step 3) Go to the main LiveJournal menu page. Mouse over "Profile" then go down to "Manage Userpics"
Step 4) Depending on where your photo file is, use 'Browse' to select the file you want, then click on 'Proceed' when you've got the one you want.
Step 5) This bit will let you crop/alter the photo to design your actual userpic.

Thanks. I don't have any photos on my computer and I don't know how/where to find them on the internet. I'm computer illiterate, remember? Thanks for trying to help. Let me know about Pennsic.

you can also nick them from the rest of us.
right click over someone's icon. Save them to a folder on your computer, that way you can pick and choose and have bunch to choose from.

you can look at a person's entire collection of icons from their profile page.
there are zillions.

you can also call or come over and I will show you.
