1) The Review (it's not long, but I completely adored the movie. I thought it turned out perfectly, delivered all the right notes with tact, beauty and horror). ( review under cut for spoilers, obvs )
I'm so glad you enjoyed the movie! I loved it too. Adaptations turn out to be meh, but this one actually worked, which was awesome. The only thing that did kind of bother me (sorry, it's going to sound petty) was the bumpy camera movement in about 90% of the time. I understood its purpose, but mostly it made me feel all dizzy when the movie ended. Other than that, awesomeness all around. I'm really glad I could finally feel something for Katniss, so well done to Jennifer Lawrence for that.
Yeah, the camera action was dizzying at times. I wanted to take the camera and hold it still myself.. lol. But, overall, it was a great adaptation. I hope all who were involved do the rest of the films.
I can't wait to see Katniss' face when Peeta "pops the question" in front of Caesar. Or lets all of Panem know she's pregnant with their love baby. ROFL
Jennifer Lawrence did a stellar job as Katniss. All involved did wonderful. And Josh as Peeta? I had my reservations, but he did so well. I wanted to hug him and pet him and call him "my Peeta".
I'm more Team Gale myself *hides* and surprisingly, so is everyone in my office who have watched the film (as well as my mom), but I thought Josh was okay as Peeta. I'm still somewhat apprehensive about the whole Katniss/Petta and star-crossed lovers agenda as a whole, but I thought the actors have all done really well as their characters.
The guy that plays Gale in the movie was good-looking, true, but I never liked Gale in the books. Ever. And Mockingjay sealed the deal on that for me, too.
I think the star-crossed lovers bit was always more of an act with Katniss, than Peeta. They really did not come to love each other until Katniss realized she lost him to the Capitol (or thought so because of what Snow did to him). So, I feel like the romance was more of an act until the end of the books. And it still was not the central theme for me: it still was about how we as a people have come to want only food and entertainment. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana comes to mind when I read these books.
With the lights out, it's less dangerous Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us
I haven't seen it, but my son thought it was amazing. I saw Josh on Conan and he said that people who ship Peeta and Katniss call the couple 'Peenis'. LOL Come on fandom you can do better! how's Katta? I'm so glad you found the movie a worthy adaptaion of the book. I hate it when movies fail. Have a great week and I hope your Brother is doing well.
GO SEE IT! You have to! LOL, yeah, Josh has had signs up with that. I thought it was a goof at first, but ROFL, it's true. I don't think I could call it that. It doesn't have the same ring to it as Destiel or Samifer or anything like that. Katta I like. Or Katpee.. wait, that's worse! *laughs uncontrollably* I'm on my way to work now, and brother is doing better. He might even be transferred to somewhere closer to home this week. They talked about putting in a pacemaker, but now that doesn't seem to be in the cards anymore. He will need rehab and therapy for several months before he can come home, though.
I thought the acting was brilliant!! :) The script could have been better but the cast was just amazing with what they were given. Cried bucketloads! Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Script was good, really. IMHO, I liked it all. Parts of it were a bit stiff, but overall, I think it was fantastic. Best book adaptation I've seen since the first Chronicles of Narnia movie.
I feel weird that I want to go see it again with another friend, but... doesn't that play into the moral dilemma of what the movie is about? Or am I over-thinking it?
Nah, I think it's all right to go see it again. If anything, you're supporting the movie and the fandom, so long as you keep in mind what the book is fighting against. :)
Oh, I still need to write up my thoughts on the movie, but honestly, I don't even know where to begin! I just loved it from start to finish, of course! :)
My sister, who's only read the first few chapters, was bawling during Rue's death scene (as was I!) She also seemed to really get the themes of the story through the movie, which so rarely happens with adaptations!
Peeta/Katniss (I like Everlark as a ship name Or "toast" - boy with the bread & girl on fire, lol) were PERFECT. So, so adorable in all their scenes and they just reminded me so much of book!Everlark. :')
Really, the themes came out strong for me, and not like "hit you over the head" strong, but potent and real. I hope everyone that was involved in this movie continues with the next three films!
Everlark... I LOVE that! makes me want to make more icons now! (BTW, where did you find your Rue icon? That girl stole the show!)
The Cave scene? Oh.. wow... just so much better than I was hoping for, and what I pictured. I just... man, I just adore Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. He may not be my original choice, but he does the part justice. And Jennifer Lawrence just pulls out a fantastic job as Katniss. Made me even like the character more than I did in the books.
YES, exactly! What I loved most about the movie was that most of the themes of the books were still there, but slightly understated - it allowed people who haven't read the series to grasp the key message of the story, while still leaving the details, like the symbolism behind the Mockingjay and the dandelion=hope to the book. I'm sure the film will introduce a lot of new fans, and when they read the books, details like those will be even clearer. :)
She really did! Little Amandla Stenberg made me love Rue even more, if that's even possible. The icon is by blue_emotion :)
CAVE SCENE. Oh, gosh. I was so worried that the scene wouldn't be what I imagined, but it was so much more. Josh's loving gazes and Jennifer's tentative smiles just made me melt. And the part when he reached out to heal her forehead cut? SWOON. :')
And the part when he reached out to heal her forehead cut? SWOON.
WHERE WAS THAT IN THE BOOK?! If not, I would have LOVED to read that part.
I KNOW!! I had to clasp my hands over my mouth to keep from squealing in the theater. My friend next to me would have NO IDEA why I was giggling in a movie that was, overall, dark and disturbing.
Oh gosh, L. I can't wait to see the next film and how they portray the Quarter Quell and... Peeta and Katniss on the beach...the pearl? AND FINNICK ODAIR.
