it's fun to watch subbed anime with a rudimentary Japanese vocabulary. you catch the weirdest things doing that. for instance, once while watching episode 7 of Saiyuki near the end just before Shuuei/Rikudo strikes Sanzou (or just after, am currently halted at no less than 3 different places in the first box set and incapable of checking, as dvd's are Maggie's.) Shuuei refers to Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo using a word the subs translate as simply demons, which is generally used when the original script uses youkai. In this case, the word that Shuuei is using is clearly bakemono, which I've usually seen as monster. that caused a general wtf the first time I caught it.
